Full backs that can get up and down

Centre backs who can pass the ball and start attacks

One destroyer/anchor in the middle of the park

Mobile players behind striker who interchange a lot

Proper complete forward

We have one or maybe two of those sets of players. I’d rather we continue to be pragmatic.

This is a good appointment for us at this current time.

Hopefully will put to bed that we can't play 1 upfront and not be attacking that i've seen on here/twitter etc.

I would say in the club at the moment that suit those parameters are

KVY
Downes
Bishop
Edwards
Norwood

Maybe Kenlock on recent form can continue to make the left side his own.
I would be nervous about Judge continuing to operate in a free role within a Cook system though

Tend to agree — this feels like a time to get Jackson and Norwood up there together.

From that description, I reckon we'd expect to see something like this on Saturday

Holy

Matheson
Woolfenden
Nsiala
Kenlock

Downes
Dozzell

Edwards
Judge
Bennetts

Norwood

No Dozzell?

What about the neglected youths?

Dobra
El Mizouni
Lankester
McGavin

Wolfie is good enough if Cook can get his confidence back. He used to be able to pass the ball well. Judge still has plenty to offer the way he has been playing the last few matches as well.

If they’re both fit and interested then this is the way. They scored plenty of goals playing together when we ended up in this league until Lameberk went insane.
Give me 442, give me Jackson and Norwood, give me Downes and Dozzell, give me Toto and Wilson.

We tick several of those boxes-

Matheson, Kenlock and KYV
Wolf I and Chambers
Downes, Nolan, Dozell, Bishop, Dobra, El Miz
Norwood,

If that's true then in my opinion Woolfy, KVY (when he's finally fit) and Flynn Downes are probably the only players who could fit into that style of system at present.

Having been players that we have. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 4.3.3

Norwood. Jackson. Parrott

Downes. Bishope. Dozzell middle

Matheson. Chambers. Wilson. Kenlock

If it's /any/ kind of back four, I would say we simply have to pick our best CB pairing, and at the moment that has to be Nsiala and Wilson.

Maybe in the long term Joe with some judicious recruitment and squad culling in the summer. From now until the end of the season I hope he plays a system which suits our players instead of trying to shoehorn them to something they are not able to do.

I tend to think a good manager does what's needed with the stuff he inherits and then makes his evolution. Look at Arteta/Arsenal — pretty much sh6thoused his way to an FA Cup on a back three and no possession because, til a month or two ago, they just didn't have the tools. For the next two and a half months it is absolutely needs must — imagine Cook will know that.

Love that Kenlock is now arguably one of the first names on the team sheet. Got his head down and has taken his chance.

Full backs- chamber is incredibly fit for his age and has been excellent this season. Realistically though this Matheson and kenlock

CBs - that is woolfenden. Toto, chambers and Mcguinees sit in the middle and Wilson is the other end of the spectrum

Mobile - Bishop, dowmes and maybe Nolan. Dozzell getting better at that lately

Anchor dozzell or downes

Complete forward only really Norwood from what we have

And how many do we have to play those roles naturally? It looks a fairly good fit, although not convinced we have a No.9 to play how Cook wants to.

Hopefully he might take a look at Wigan's Tom Pearce as a summer signing. Cook brought him to Wigan.

Cracking player.

Using your points as headers, in my opinion I see the following as options leaving room elsewhere:

Full backs - Matheson, KVY

Centre backs - Woolfenden, Chambers

One destroyer/anchor - Downes (partnered with Dozzell)

Mobile players - Judge, Harrop, Bishop, Dobra, Bishop, Thomas

Complete forward - Norwood

May have missed a couple out, but we glaringly miss the left sided full back who can get up and down. I think MK can do the job, but there's room to improve.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

Would stick with 4-4-1-1 for now. Wide players can push on but not quite 4-2-3-1.

We have all those in our squad in my view; the fact they’ve been under utilised and badly coached for years is another debate.
