Does anyone know how the possible takeover will be funded? 14:44 - Mar 3 with 957 viewssoupytwist

One thing I haven't seen discussed is whether the takeover will load a pile of debt onto the club as happened recently at Burnley and was how the Glaziers took over Man Utd. Or are the potential investors using their own money, or money they're borrowing themselves?

That could make or break it for me.

It's been discussed ad nauseam.

Hedge funds and some state pension pot.

So they will need short term returns.

There's nothing especially worrying about any of that, relatively, even though personally it stinks to high heaven. Look at Man U. Stripped of the emotional aspects, professional football clubs are a business like any other, unfortunately.

No. but maybe they will be relocating us to Felixstowe to defer all future tax payments, avoid rates and benefit from reduced planning rules?

Or not.

There isn't much for them to leverage the debt against with us unlike Burnley (Premier League tv money) and Manchester United (worldwide fanbase and commercial agreements).

They will be borrowing money to buy and fund the club and effectively have to beat the terms (in both timescales and rate of interest) to make good on their promises. Everyone involved is incentivised by Ipswich performing well both on and off the pitch.

So the hedge funds will use money from their funds to pay Marcus Evans? And the fire fighters'/coppers' pension fund is doing the same?

They won't be taking out a loan from someone like MSD and loading it onto the club? OK, that's better than how the Glaziers bought Man Utd and ALK bought Burnley.

Suspect there is a cashflow somewhere that assumes losses for the first 2-3 years to sustain promotion to the championship, and then losses to sustain a promotion challenge of sorts once there.

They will assume stabilisation at Y3 or Y4, and if that's not achieved the tap will turn off.

They may also be looking at a Brentford model to make better income / returns from player recruitment and sales.

A number of ways of structuring it.

Ultimately Gamechanger will need to control the club so presumably it is funded by all the investors (could be ordinary shares, preference shares akin to debt etc) who then acquires the shares in ITFC from the existing Marcus Evans company holding the club today. To fund the day to day, there could then be loans from investors direct to the club or an increase in equity at the top. I'd expect the former as you'll be constantly playing around with ownership percentages if different members aren't aligned in equity investment each time there's a cash call.

You'd expect an initial "working capital" amount - say several months of the deficit to be put in the club on day 1.

Guess we wait to see.
