Reads as a very slippery statement to me, it may well be a very public bit of brinkmanship. Clearly there is very much something going on, as if he has as many enquiries as he says, why is this the first time he's felt the need to so publicly address one particular rumour?

"new football investors with potentially greater investment pain thresholds than me appear on the scene"

Clearly that isn't what the OP is saying, Evans may be trying to pour cold water on the rumours but thanks to Phil we know better (land searches, specific detail on investors etc). | |

Although I suspect you are being tongue-in-cheek, I think you are probably spot on.
Evans knows so little about what is going on at the club, the deal is probably all done and sitting on Evans' desk and he hasn't yet seen it. |  |
