Favourite fish to eat in a restaurant? on 12:07 - Mar 5 with 2979 views | clive_baker | I rarely order fish in a restaurant, especially in the U.K. Would tend to go for proper meat like a steak or veggie, rarely anything in between. With you on Sea Bass though if pushed.

I'm the same typically, but a Sea Bass I had in, of all places, The Bodleian Library in Oxford is still one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

Favourite fish to eat in a restaurant? on 12:09 - Mar 5 with 2966 views | ArnoldMoorhen | I've had a beautifully fresh John Dory in a garlic and capers butter. Really straightforward but heavenly. I'd probably put that top. If widening to "seafood" then quickly grilled octopus in a good restaurant near the sea has a sweetness that I really enjoy. And then it's also all about the wine. I really want to go and sit by the Med, eat some fresh fish and drink some chilled Albarino now.

That would come second to John Dory for me. Thin little fillets, but you appreciate every tiny mouthful! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'm with you all the way on John Dory, and Red Snapper is fantastic, too. An Indian restaurant in the town I used to live in did various sweet and spicy sauces with either Red Snapper, Red Mullet or huge prawns. All worked really well in an over-the-top kind of way. I really miss restaurants.

Like you, I more often tend to have meat than fish, but do like a nice sole (or even better, dab/flounder).

Favourite fish to eat in a restaurant? on 12:59 - Mar 5 with 2854 views | Churchman | If it’s the fish and chip restaurant on Brighton seafront or that one in Aldeburgh it’s cod all the way. In proper restaurants I don’t normally have fish but If I do, I’m really boring and would go for salmon. Somebody else has mentioned fresh sardines - thumbs up to those too. It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |
