... over covid. The man's clearly a complete psychopath and hopefully he'll get voted out in 2022. However, he's been making similarly insensitive and irresponsible statements for the past 12 months yet his polling numbers have stayed consistent. Likewise, Trump lost re-election but pre-covid averages suggested he would lose the popular vote by roughly 8%, which is broadly the same as the election day polls, and more than the 4.5% he was eventually beaten by. It does show that there's a worldwide trend of opposition parties failing to break through during covid times, even if they're competing against incompetents, lunatics and psychopaths. That doesn't mean that politicians who aren't in government shouldn't be criticised, but it shows there's clearly a very big 'rally around the flag' effect. Hopefully we'll see public opinion turn against these types of leaders once the pandemic is over. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-56288548 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationwide_opinion_polling_for_the_2020_United_Sta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_2022_Brazilian_general_ele | |
