a squad of players, that no matter who managers them, they are losers. we have 1/2 winners in that team that could drive a team on, but that's it. Downes and Norwood, even tho the latter often fluffs his lines, he atleast finds these positions.

4/5/6 years of consistently failing, not being up for the fight, its deeply engrained in them now. no urgency, confidence non existent. majority very quiet weak boys.

squad crying out for more battle hardened men.

edit. Freddie sears, wont ever score for us again

Disagree with this.

Bad teams highlight individual players’ weaknesses rather than showing their strengths. And of course that has a knock-on effect on confidence and belief in each other. We saw how that could be reversed when Mick took over a team that was tumbling out of the Championship and then he got them competing with the better sides in terms of points per game.

Of course, Cook has a bigger job than just flicking a switch. I think he can make quick improvements given it’ll be a fresh atmosphere but turning ourselves into the form side of the division to make the playoffs might be a bit too much.

Either way, the time to judge the players is when they look somewhat organised and the game plan is clearer. If they can’t perform then, other individuals will replace them.

Right?

Particularly the whole "they're all powderpuff losers with no fight" stuff when we literally just ground out 3 narrow wins in a week against sides above us in the league, largely through graft rather than quality.

I agree with you RE the grafting but I'm not sure that our players are street smart enough for that! We have had basically two seasons of mediocrity in a poor division. A lot of these players are just not good enough and I would consider as squad fillers.

They should however still be good enough to have us in the playoffs as a minimum but is that acceptable for a club of our size, considering we must have the biggest wage budget?

I'm hoping for a trimmed squad with the quality that we are missing.

Any opposing team that are prepared to battle and attack us can beat this Ipswich team.

The space we allow for other teams to play through us is one thing, giving the ball to them is another. The defending sometimes is embarrassing. We can have 5 or 6 of our players in the box but still allow an opposing player a tap in at the far stick. Too often it only takes a flurry of swift passing from the opposition to score or that bit of space for a shot on goal. .

The goal difference is low too, just +4. Every team above us have a better goal difference.
Three teams below us have better goal difference ,Blackpool, Oxford and Fleetwood.

I have been saying a new manager wont make any difference for years now.

Poll: What % of ST holders saying they won’t renew, will end up renewing regardless?

The players are more than decent for this level. Bizarre that they suddenly aren't after one crap performance. Two days ago every thought we'd now piss promotion this season. This place blows in the wind like a carrier bag in a hurricane.

Sorry, I disagree. Not everybody on this board thought we’d walk promotion after the previous three games. Hope is one thing, expectation is another. If it was one dreadful performance you’d be correct. Yesterday was the norm for nearly three seasons now home and away, interrupted by the odd decent effort.

I don’t think very many of the players are good enough either. There are plenty with talent, but you cannot train in desire, hunger, good attitude week in week out. I heard Chris Waddle interviewed a few years ago and that was his point about players in the lower leagues. He said that plenty had the ability to play at a higher level and on odd games could deliver. But he noticed when he saw lower league players close up, that they couldn’t do it week in week out. I think that applies to a number of our players

Sears for the second goal was pathetic - gave it away and made no attempt to track back (was jogging).

A major issue is the lack of discipline. I’ve been saying this for as long as I can remember but I’ve never know a town team give away so many needless fouls. Dozzell, Downes, Norwood, Jackson, Edwards all do it far too often and it has to stop. We either lose all momentum when they do it or worse concede goals from them. That Dozzell tackle for the first goal yesterday was stupid and not the first time.

Don’t think we have the characters personally but very happy to be proved wrong.

Yes very poor from Sears , who i seem to remember claimed early season he could still do a job in the Championship , Toto's attempt at a clearance was just as poor !

Which players specifically do you think aren't good enough to be challenging for promotion from League 1?

Good post and I agree - this is why they seemingly take it in turns to play poorly. Name the last player to play well for more than say half a dozen consecutive games. I struggle to do that over the last two seasons and have watched all this seasons performances and most of last season.

Indeed. A lot of bluffers at this football club.

Agree with that. We are mightily short of decent players aren’t we. As for Judge, he is not the player he was but is potentially useful. It depends on his attitude, as indeed it does with a lot of them. This bothers me with Downes and if he or any player wants away, cheerio, out of the building they would immediately go.

Judge is not potentially useful. He’s been here 2 and half years, he was useful at Brentford, we don’t have that version.

Every player will want away from the club if a team higher up the pyramid comes, especially a premier league one.
