imo Cook is making the same mistake as Lambert did 21:24 - Mar 16 with 5478 viewsGlasgowBlue

Playing his preferred system rather than playing to the strength of the players at his disposal.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Annoying thing is like tonight, Fleetwood didn't do anything that was amazing, it wasn't rough, it wasn't quick, it was just abit less Meh than we were were.
However, we make the simple things look so damn hard
We had parrott again running into the exact same places as Jackson, god knows who was actually what tonight, compared to Plymouth, neither of them seemed to know their position.
Dozzell ran towards his own goal, Skuse is still walking off the pitch as we speak.

Things will get better I am sure!
I’m done for tonight.

Cooks not going to come in after being successful with Wigan, Pompy and Chesterfield, playing 4 2 3 1, having his own way of managing a side etc and suddenly change to different formations.

He mentioned something in his after game comments which is key,
"But as well as trying to get promoted, I’m also trying to find out about the character and the players, and that can be tough for a manager because while you want to help them and make changes, sometimes it’s only in adversity you find out about people."

It must be very difficult to have supporter expectations of immediate success, whilst knowing you've got no time to actually figure out what you actually have available as a players

I dont think its immediate success which is the expectation actually, its just about showing something different. and this will now be the 2nd game of his short reign already that Im expecting a reaction from the players for the next game to show they know they should perform better.

plus there were people on here claiming he'd analysed the squad in detail for weeks before being appointed as thats why he was so familiar with the team as pundit for hire for tv.

my view is a successful manager quickly works out, like within 1 game,1 training session, what peoples strengths are or not where they are with you, what takes longer is working out whether you can improve people or take them on the journey you want to.

Everybody he picked to play tonight he ought to know by now that they should be capable of doing what he is asking them to do else why pick them.

But he makes a good point about finding out the players he can trust

it's all well and good picking those that train well.... to then watch them pay like they did tonight, which isn't the first time it's happened, and we've heard about it all season..... " training well but not taking it out onto the pitch" etc

There are tweaks you can see he's attempting, but any change is relying on input from the players. We saw in the opening 20 last week, probably the most down your throat ipswich performance for years..... suddenly it stopped and we reverted back to lacklustre and players running out of position, passing no where and being awful.
Tonight, kenlock passed to the linesman, Parrott did his best to be himself and Jackson at the sametime and ruining potential phases of plays.

Now i'm not comparing......BUT you can't judge any new manager in any short space of time unless they've worked with their own players....... I.E Sir Bobby, Burley, all took time in their own era's to succeed with their squads.

Cook has come in a the worst possible time for a manager, no training session time, yet carrying on the expectations of playoffs despite taken on a side which has struggled for many many months.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.
