He did win three titles. His record was (2 pts per win) 1955/56 64 from 46 56/57 59 from 46 57/58 44from 42 58/59 40 from 42 59/60 44 from 42 60/61 58 from 42 61/62 56 from 42 62/63 35 from 42 with 3 pts for a win we would have had 89pts 84 pts 60pts 57pts 63pts 85pts 80pts 47pts I make that 1.64 per game just on league games so don't know where 2.25 comes from unless I am doing something wrong. edit-the article seems to discount 1962/63 but Alf was still our manager because he did not take up England duties until April 1963 but even then it works out at 1.71ppg edit2-even looking at their figures the article is obviously a nonsense because it says 369 games so to average 2.25ppg you need 830 pts, it says 176 wins which is 528 points so where do the other 302 points come from from 193 games? Speaking of 3 points per win, we'd have won the title instead of Derby in 1975 if that was 3 rather than 2 points for a win. What a season. Cheated out of an easy FA Cup final win against Fulham by Clive Thomas and should have been league champions.

We did, we won the World Cup in 1966, much as the Irons would like people to think it were them.

3 points for a win was introduced in 1981/82 it always was 2 points before that. The idea, I think, is that wins are treated as 3 points in the article but the average for Sir Alf is wrong whichever way you look at it. edit-the more I look at the article the less sense it makes so I am giving up-I cannot make any sense of what they are saying for John Lyall either. Very little, if any, of the article makes sense to me either logically or arithmetically.
