Where, what?

I've just been outside watering things!

BBC website currently predicting heavy snow for Woodbridge at 0700 and 0800 on Monday, sleet later though so that is alright.

Be a while until I try my first runner beans seeds properly, but I like to try to get a couple of early ones started if I can.

Too cold for a while to start them off outside even under cover if we're going to be hitting minus again, so the window sill it will have to be then.

Will be bringing a load of stuff indoors from the greenhouse.

Yes it'll be too cold even for in there won't it?

What temp is safe do you think?

I bought a greenhouse heater some years ago but it was little more than a tubular bulb thing really that only got a little bit warm.

But I don't have anywhere for a greenhouse here although I have one of those plastic mini greenhouse tiered things which will be useful come late Apr/may.

Plus propagators etc.

If you have tips for starting things like beans and tomatoes off early feel free.

Stick with Broad Beans, they are hard as nails (and much tastier).

RIP Sir Bobby

I'm not a fan tbh Wallers.

But when I say runners, I am also referring to French beans, mange tout etc.

Those are my three favourites. Easy enough to grow but I start to get impatient and like to get a few early ones on the go.

Let's face it, planting them out in May and they're well on their way by June and producing by July anyway, but it's nice get a few early picks in too!

Lol. Bank Holiday Monday innit. It'll probably rain frogs too.

Sods law that I picked next week instead of this one to be off work. It's supposed to be freezing all week.

I heard it's tropical around Gower all year round.

A real tourist attraction so I now understand.

The secret with broad beans is to peel them twice

First time to take them out of the velvet lined pod

Second time to get the green centres out of the grey skins....it's the grey skin that makes them taste evil

* Tip of the Day*

It helps to have a zero boredom threshold for the second peeling

There's some wonderful suggestions on the other thread to help you guys out.

I cannot believe you ignored them.

Dunno really. But I think greenhouse heaters are not really morally justifiable unless you've got a double glazed (at least) greenhouse. Nowhere near as morally reprehensible as patio heaters - anybody who uses one of them ought to have a long hard look at themselves!

Never had a patio heater.

I bought some shawl, blanket thing many moons ago on a trip to India and can say that it's perfect to wrap around the head and upper body and keeps one warm perfectly.

That and a few beers has normally done the trick over the years.
