Shaun Cromber, who voted for Britain to leave the EU ... on 16:21 - Apr 1 by Swansea_Blue

Yeah, expats in the EU had a grace period of 90 days to get their house in order after we left on 31st December last. That expired yesterday for many, so they've all had to apply for residency [edited from citizenship, thanks for VWH for pointing out] or pack their bags.

I'd have some sympathy if they were told a lie by the leading brexiteers; highly likely, but I don't know whether they were. I assumed that a no deal (no customs union and single market) would automatically mean we'd lose freedom of movement. I thought that's what bexiteers wanted and Priti Patel seems positively joyous and proud that we've all lost our EU free movement.

I think the information was there if they wanted to find it, not that I paid much attention to the expat situation.

Made up story or not these people exist.

I spoke to a vocal "leave" supporter who owns a property in Spain and intended to live out there when she retires. Her view was that Spain needs them and would make sure they were allowed to stay.

That's not bad is it. Can't really be any excuses for people to be caught out if it's as simple as that.

This is the only good thing to come out of Brexit, the schaudenfreude of seeing some of those who voted for it realising that they have fwcked themselves over.

Cruel I know, but I also smiled at the French woman who caught Covid waiting for the pfizer jab having refused the AZ one previously.

That's the problem with a lot of Brit expats, really. They don't consider themselves part of Spain but rather something outside it. If they engaged more with the authorities there (or could speak Spanish) they would have known all this months ago and could have done something about it. Ironic really as so many leave voters did so because of the perception of immigrants not integrating into everyday British life like they ought to.

The whole HAMBURGER AND CHIPS brigade abroad really do make you ashamed of being a Brit from time to time. A special blend of arrogance and ignorance.

Reading some stuff previously this chap was saying that up to late December so many out there were of the mind that

'it won't come to this'

'nah, we'll still be ok'

The Spanish DON'T need those living under the radar, paying no tax and contributing nothing to the country, as if they had bunked into a holiday camp and were enjoying all that was available without paying.

Until it directly affects similarly stupid numpties little will change. It has hit both fishermen and farmers (pro brexiteers) already. It will, in the coming months, hit UK tourists heading for the EU.

Almost every holiday maker to the EU has only done so since the UK joined the then Common Market, so they have no idea of what it is like to travel as a non EU citizen.

Expect a summer of hard luck/sob stories filling the tabloids.

I voted unashamedly for Brexit and do not regret it at all; however that vid really made me laugh. Doctored or not, thank you for sharing - just love the Terry and June story.

The vaccination numbers are nothing to do with brexit, we could, and almost certainly would, have gone it alone with the vaccinations even if we were still in the EU.

So if you want to stay in Spain apply for residency. Some Romanian friends have had to do similar to stay in the UK.

Do you also laugh at all the businesses that are stuffed thanks to your vote and all those now experiencing a rise in tensions in Northern Ireland as a result of it too?

Just seen the news on BBC regarding tensions in Northern Ireland. According to there reporter its more to do with paramilitary drug operations that the police are clamping down on.

I posted this a months ago, it's all down to drugs. Completely!

The problem isn't the police though and it is sort of Brexit related. It's because they can't get supplies from UK counterparts because since January all shipments are being scrutinised by HMRC because of duty etc

Forgive me Nthsuffolkblue if I do not answer your question directly. What I do accept is that anything detrimental to the health, welfare and general being of the UK over the next couple (at least) of years in the UK will be the direct impact of Brexit according to 48% of the electorate; at the same time any benefits that the UK will accrue will be down to anything other than the government or the Brexit vote.
Most businesses suffering at the moment are more Covid related than anything else and the troubles in Northern Ireland are many fold and deserve an unbiased view, summary and detailed examination rather than plying the blame game. There is a lot of pent up aggression throughout Europe especially among young people and who can blame them.
I for one think we owe the younger generation a huge vote of thanks for their tolerances and behaviour in the main during the past year or so.
Brexit will undoubtedly cause some inconveniences, loss of business, interruption and the like.
To blame it for all the ills that many are doing is .....well I will leave it there.
Oh, thank for the compliment....as ITFC supporters we have to stick together, we need one another now more than at any other time I guess.

Although Jeera I am aware you believe your longevity on this site gives you the right to be above us lesser mortals, I will not bow to your instruction of what to dismiss and what not to dismiss.
The mere fact that I then thanked someone for being gentlemanly despite disagreeing with me is called manners.

The items you have mentioned only go to prove what I said in my post...
I came on this thread to say thanks to someone who made me laugh earlier then followed it up with a dignified response to a question i was asked.
Then the mighty Jeera comes along (gang members to follow) to carry on the tradition on this site of ridiculing all who have an opinion different to their own.
There are about a score of you who prowl the site waiting to pounce on anyone who might have dared to vote for Brexit or/and voted Conservative at the last election.
As for being idle - mmmmm - if only you knew.
Sleep well.

Steady jeera mate, not sure they have posted anything here or elsewhere to warrant that response. Unless I've missed something?

I too think that brexit is an utterly avoidable mess, but its not unreasonable for some people to disagree with that.
