There’s an age demographic of growing frustration and left wing views to engage. But nah, we want the nearly-dead votes. Working a treat, see OP poll.

Polling individual policies and polling a manifesto are completely different kettles of fish. Like I've said above, I liked a lot of the stuff in it regarding the increased housing stock, better employment rights, and more NHS funding, to name a few. And when those are polled individualy, people like them - I'd wager that anyone who isn't a hard right Tory would approve of more NHS funding if asked in a survey. However, when you throw in widespread nationalisation, scrapped tuition fees and free broadband on top, people start to question whether it's deliverable. Of course Corbyn and Brexit were the main issues that drove people away, but if the Labour manifesto was as popular as some like to claim, the Tories wouldn't currently have an 80 seat majority. The future lies to the left of New Labour but also to the right of Corbyn. You can't offer people the same package that's been rejected twice in the last 4 years.

FWIW I think the manifesto in 2019 went too far and was too easy to attack.

Fair enough. As well as the spending pledges, the fact that it was a programme for 10 years rather than 5 made it seem even less realistic.

You've used some words here. That's about all the credit I can give you.

You’re very good at failing to understand basic things. I guess it makes life easier to just pretend it was all Corbyn’s fault and continues to be Corbyn’s fault. Nothing else in play or being ignored, noooo. And that’s why Starmer hasn’t (and won’t be) what the Labour right insisted is what the public want. [Post edited 18 Apr 2021 0:03]

I understand plenty, thanks. You are the one who debates politics like a sixth former. Your word salads generally have very little to do with what people are posting.

Of course, whatever makes you feel better about failing to understand basic things Herbs. It’s not the burn you think it is.

You do the classic late adopter thing of thinking that shouting loudly is a substitute for insight. You do it with animal rights stuff as well as with politics. Frankly, it makes me cringe a bit. But you do you, mate.

Late adopter? Now you’re just making stuff up. Again, look at the polls. And for god’s sake pull your head out of your arse obsessing over the man and not what he represented as a way of deflection.

It was a question. They are fairly simple to answer usually for anyone who has the slightest idea what they are on about. The floor is still yours.

Anyone heard any good ideas from the supposedly sensible centre about how we address low polling of the opposition as well as worsening child poverty, the environment, the breakup of the union, widening gaps in society? No me neither. I think “But Corbyn” and punching left is a comfort blanket for an utter dearth of ideas and resulting urgency. If they could try lifting their gaze from the navel of party politics then they might see what’s going on around the world let alone on their doorstep in the UK. 40 years of predominantly neoliberalism with not enough investment in society has hollowed out traditional politics. You have to start putting forward compelling solutions that can compete with the raw populism that has absolutely thrived in that void. A progressive alliance for democratic reform and a Green New Deal is an absolute no-brainer.

Funnily enough most of the perception of Corbyn and pushing Labour as a second referendum Remain party was down to those who now are in charge or cheering from the sidelines and saying what is the right way forward for getting the Tories out. Now they’re having to own it – and showing how at a loss they are.
