Much outrage today at the idea of foreign owners 08:16 - Apr 19 with 2678 views | bluelagos | using football clubs to make as much money as possible from their investments. Funny how these voices were all rather quiet 11 days ago when foreign owners bought Ipswich to make as much money as possible from their investments. Owners using football clubs to enrich themselves is now a problem but was ok previously? Am confused...

That same 'trickle down' nonsense has been used to gaslight the elctorate for decades, no reason why football fans shouldn't fall for it too.

I'm as staunch a socialist as there is and if I ran things every football club in the land would by law be 100% fan-owned and democratically-run, with strict rules preventing speculative spending. These are community assets and should be treated as such. But that isn't the world we live in and the last time I tried to bring about that sort of society I spent 10 hours getting yelled at and insulted as I tramped around Ipswich in the rain, so here we are... And if I've got to live with capitalism destroying football, then fine, I'll give these slick Americans (and their British friends) a go, rather than persist with the former ticket tout who ran the club badly and insulted us into the bargain. Because the door isn't open to them right now doesn't mean they wouldn't be more than willing to run through it |
Oh I suspect that if the opportunity was there for them, they may very well take it. I just object to the implication of the original post that feeling happy about the takeover means that you're complicit in the ESL. bluelagos, Haynes-toe etc we know that you're whingers and doom-merchants, just let people be optimistic instead of wagging your finger for Christ sake. We are so far out of this discussion, it's incredible, but that won't prevent some fans from having digs at others. Incredible!

Much outrage today at the idea of foreign owners on 08:25 - Apr 19 by bluelagos | Just wonder how posters square their disgust at the greed of the owners of the big 6 whilst welcoming the money (and greed) of our new owners. Not too dissimilar to the fans of say Man U or Man C who are easily placated at the prospect of the success on the pitch. Yet the bigger issue of football clubs as money making ventures is finally laid bare for all to see:- Namely the owners don't give a fck for anything other than making as much money as possible. |
It's slightly different if the "foreign owner" is actually the Pension Fund of a US State's firefighters. I mean we're practically a Collective now!
