The govt have set up a review (headed by Tracey Crouch) so fingers crossed something solid comes of it. Football hass been on a roller coaster for years and just maybe now the veneer of respectability of owners (who have no interest in football other than to make money) has been smashed, just maybe there will be some meaningful change?
The whole thing is laughable. The fact that the clubs involved 'need' the money because of Covid and yet spend millions of pounds on signing players and paying their wages.
The fact that Gary Neville and Sky can kick off about it when realistically it's because they wouldn't have won the broadcasting rights and would have ruined their product.
The fact that Uefa and Fifa can moan about clubs wanting to breakaway after years of corruption.
The fact that the government wanted to stop it from happening because it risks clubs taking their business abroad when they have hardly done anything to protect the game.
The fact that a new deal has likely been brokered with Uefa which will mean that some of the clubs involved will get what they want anyway.
Professional football is massively broken. With the corporate greed and lack of any sustainability, these scandals will continue to happen in the future.
