With all the talk of giving Cook a transfer window... 12:32 - Apr 21 with 1054 viewstownblue

Are we overestimating the number of quality players we will be able to bring into the squad next season?

I'm concerned we will have our big clear out but not end up with a full squad of Cook's men. We then have to give them half a season to gel.

It's a bit of a gamble. Perhaps I am just seeing things as they used to be under Evans where every transfer window was a disappointment.

This will be a huge season or released players. A lot of teams tightening the purse strings following no gate receipts and a fraction of the money from iFollow. (Keep in mind 5500ish was a record breaking turnout for iFollow, and we would probably have 10K minimum at a match)

Teams structured their contract renewals around a salary cap that never came, but doesn't mean wont come relatively soon.

The point is, there will be a LOT of 'free' talent this window, and GOOD free talent too. So, we're not overestimating anything if our recruitment strategy is to be as robust as it should with newly generated investment from GC20.

There are 1000 out of contract players to shop with

plus any players PC may want to try to sign from other clubs in contract

Absolutely.

We need to make sure that transfers in are quality ones. Zero point in chasing volume of players again as it never works.

Plus Im concerned that this data approach to transfers isn't even being introduced until the Summer. So who is out there scouting these players right now?

I read Norwich got Buendia based on data approach. We have been so far behind. Bad recruitment has killed this club more than any other factor.

I had forgotten about the data driven approach. Not sure if that rules out some free agents if they haven't been playing recently.

I think Phil said in another post we'd be aiming for Championship level players.

If we can achieve that (big if), then it'll be great so that we wouldn't require another big rebuild when (if) we go up.

Why would thag worry you when we have more cash the we have had in a decade, no salary cap and more players without clubs than at almost any time before?

I don't think it even matters that much that we sign a squad of 20 players that are great on paper, they just need to be different.

I think there is almost as much to be gained in the exorcism of the Evans era in every possible area as there is in terms of improving individual players. We've got a squad of losers who can't snap out of a funk, and we need entirely new blood to rectify it.
