Im trying desperately hard to understand 15:56 - Apr 23 with 3834 views | gtsb1966 | how after two years in this division and looking like an average to shiiite side some people on here are sticking up for the players who have failed big time under two different managers just because Cook has said a few harsh but true words. Do you all want Ipswich Town FC to fail again and again because that is what it reads like. Before Cook arrived everyone thought they were shiiite and it was ok to say it because Lambert didn't, but now Cook has said the truth some people are getting all uptight. Our support is an embarrassment sometimes. [Post edited 23 Apr 2021 15:58]

Im trying desperately hard to understand on 16:07 - Apr 23 by BlueWorldOrder | But when do we get the right to criticize Cook? It just feels like Lambert all over again. |
Be critical all you like, but also be open minded to the fact that Cook has inherited a broken squad. Right now this very much is a case of trying to wipe one's arse with a hedgehog because the shops aren't open to sell bog roll. If Paul cook keeps wiping his arse with a hedgehog once the shops open over summer - then you'll very quickly have many people critical of Cook.

Im trying desperately hard to understand on 16:10 - Apr 23 by gtsb1966 | People have told you over and over again on other threads, Lambert had two and a half years. Cook hasn't had a transfer window yet. It was Lamberts squad and he clearly thought they were good enough. I thought we had a good squad for this league but clearly i was wrong too. |
Players don't suddenly get terrible overnight and we were at least average until very recently.

No, we were never 'at least' average. We've been 'average at best' in this league for a long time. Average players in big money takeover, realise they won't be 1st choice in August, if they are even here so decide to down tools now to avoid injury. It's hardly surprising is it?

Im trying desperately hard to understand on 16:23 - Apr 23 by wkj | They are both. Granted, what you say about Evans is true. However, not a single one of the players has done anything for 3 years that anyone can be particularly proud about. They shouldn't be smiling at the end of games, and they have accepted mediocrity in their own fitness, performance and position of mentors. Evans may have started the rot, but they have as much a part a play to get past it as any manager does - and if they don't, then it is best for all parties they try to find themselves elsewhere. We can't be a soft touch any more - if we find better, bin 'em - don't invest any more time into trying to improve them if they are not going to show they can improve in 3 years. I was one of the many who thought a new manager would get better performances out of this squad but that wasn't based on any view on the ability or potential of the players, just that by common acceptance our playing budget is at the upper end of clubs in the division and thought the players had to be capable of better. Didn't think it possible, for all their inadequacies, that Lambert, Evans and O'Neill could have spent the budget so poorly. I was wrong. Don't expect Cook thought it possible either. I cant imagine he went into the job with the expectation that this squad can't even train on the same level as other league 1 clubs.

“Of course, it is. You're not going to go 100 per cent for a manager who's not committing to you. Come on. These are young men with families, they have agents, they have all the speculation about kids in schools and will they have to move and then all of a sudden we're asking them to concentrate on us and give us everything they've got." It's not quite that, is it? It's more about young men whose lives are about to be turned upside down whose focus might not be 100%.

I thought a new manager would bounce the squad too - and I am incredibly frustrated to see that not happening. Lambert may have been a better manager than he showed us here, Cook almost certainly is a better manager than he's showed us here - really, the players are the only constant for the last 3 years - if the constant is broken, so too will be the variables. OK, they don't feel like going 100% for the manager. How about going 100% for their teammates, the fans, their own self worth and their future career? [Post edited 23 Apr 2021 16:51]

Im trying desperately hard to understand on 16:19 - Apr 23 by pointofblue | No, I feel they’ve been let down by Evans’ laissez faire attitude in terms of recruitment and fitness. We have an unbalanced squad with decent players but holes which desperately need to be filled, and players who have come back from injury clearly not at the same level as they were before they picked up their knocks. We’re a dated antiquated club from another era which desperately needs to be dragged into the 21st century but the players, as a whole, are a symptom rather than the cause. |
Decent players? Who? The ones that got us relegated?

That is the footballers "lot," it is part of their chosen career. Hundreds of footballers deal with this every summer, it's part of the deal. They shouldn't be downing tools they should be thinking of their futures and gaining employment elsewhere, i.e. putting themselves in the shop window, not behaving like spoilt brats. I'd love to see where some of this mob end up next season..........

Im trying desperately hard to understand on 16:23 - Apr 23 by Cheltenham_Blue | So these players. Have been playing to the best of their abilities for three years? You really think that? And you think Evans was the one targeting players, offering contracts and taking up extensions, and thus leaving us unbalanced? |
No, that was Lambert who Evans’ laissez faire attitude shone through with yet again. Have the players been given the tools to play to their best ability since arriving here - whether under Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst, Lambert or Cook? No, they haven’t. But it’s so much easier blaming just one person or one group rather than seeing that the issues we have (hopefully that will soon be had) are more deeper and complex than just to lay at the door of one entity.

I think the issue is most of our squad is in that position this time around and those who aren’t are, quite frankly, just as much at risk. Normally turnover isn’t known to be this excessive at a club and those who feel secure can pull those who are not through the malaise.

If Cook is a success then those who have been slating him don't deserve that success. Some have been slobbering over this group of players in the last couple of years and saying they are one of the best squads in the league. Slobbering and fawning over them and they can't admit they have been wrong. I absolutely love Cook for his public comments about this mob. The more of that the better. Enough is enough for them taking a piss out of our badge and hope Cook will be merciless to them after this season has ended. [Post edited 23 Apr 2021 17:30]

Bang on ! Poor ITFC players find it hard to work harder on the pitch and they are being slated for that. Poor them ! What Bakay has said in the interview on TT yesterday I really loved as there won't be a couple of changes. There will be a major overhaul and lets not judge Cook now as this group of players aren't his. Nydam can stay for me as Cook has said he has a desire. The rest can piss off and I hope that Cook will be merciless to them.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. What else could there be? ( Assuming now, but players turning up late? barely running in training? drinking? eating to much? ) no idea, but the fact he's still biting his tongue and still came out with what he has is quite amazing.

From memory Cook has praised KVY, Woolfenden, Downes, Dozzell and Nydam so I assume they’re the one’s most likely to remain. Possibly Chambers too but that’s based on board rumours rather than anything Cook had said. But this summer is certainly going to see an overhaul and I’ve got to the point where I can’t wait for it.

The majority of these parasites will be out though. If they don't want to be part of our success then they might find it easy at Colchester, Stevenage, Bradford etc etc.
