EU being silly over vaccines again 11:18 - Apr 26 with 5728 views | Pinewoodblue | A French company , Valneva,, have failed to reach an agreement with regards to their Covid vaccine currently at phase 3 trial level. The reason being they will not agree to all the condition the EU want to impose. Basically it is a repeat of what happened with AZ. UK government signed up for 100m doses last September and assisted financially in the development, and building of the plant in Scotland. We have priority on order fulfillment. https://valneva.com/press-release/valneva-switches-focus-to-bilateral-discussion

EU admit they were too cautious having one eye on the cost. Strange how the UK approach to vaccine expenditure is lauded while it really isn’t any different to the approach to the urgent need for PPE. Only difference I suppose is none of their chums could jump on the vaccine bandwagon.

And they didn't ask a bus driver with zero previous experience to develop the vaccine. It's an odd approach but it seems to have worked out well.

EU being silly over vaccines again on 13:08 - Apr 26 with 2332 views | J2BLUE | The UK government deserve huge credit for the vaccine rollout. People can say they don't but they clearly do. Obviously they also deserve huge criticism for almost everything else. Lack of preparedness and PPE is unforgivable. Hopefully the UK can now be a grown up at the table and try and help the EU out. If we have much more than we can use we should be sending it to the poorest countries but helping the EU out would go a long way in showing we are still a friend and ally. Not everything needs to be some petty point scoring Brexit justification.

Attitudes towards Brexit are changing. Didn’t UEFA spokesman , when approving of the way fans and government condemned ESL suggested Brexit ( freedom) was part of the reason.

Feck them all. That's not to say we were right to leave the Union though, I still make that an utterly idiotic decision.

The Govt. were gambling with our money, virtually unlimited I suggest that it is remarkably easy to back a winner when you have almost infinite funds available....just bang an each-way on every runner So no kudos to those dribbling half-wits in Govt from this household

The idiotic decision was to let the people decide. Can you imagine if the next manager of Town was decided by a fans vote?

Well yeah, there is that. It's no way to run a country and Cameron has a lot to answer for. Although in our case, I can't imagine we would be much worse off had our fans been given a vote.

Bit simplistic IMO. How did the EU fail then? Relatively. I know they also backed a few winners but nowhere near the level of depth and detail that the UK contracts had.

Almost a role reversal, a conservative government throwing money at a problem in the best interests of all of us while the more socialist EU adopts a more conservative approach holding back rather than throw good money after bad. We all know vaccine development takes years and no guarantee of a successful result. On the subject of vaccine I know a guy who recently retired having spent his whole working life into finding a way of defeating malaria.

Not for me it isn't but don't let that stop you. Feel free to go back and read my posts where i've made a point in virtually all of them to equally credit the NHS and armed forces for the vaccines. I am not a Tory. I just see things how they are IMO. My list of criticisms is much longer than my list (single line) of praise. I did not vote for them at the last election and I won't vote for them at the next election.

The scientists who developed, and indeed continue to develop, the vaccines deserve a huge amount of respect. I genuinely believed that it couldn't be done I suppose if you install a chancer in No 10 then he will.....take chances I wonder if T May would have been quite so gung-ho with the public purse?

And as I've pointed out to you before, the government have had no part in the administrative task of delivering the vaccine programme. A government (ie the Cabinet) makes political decisions, they don't carry out administrative tasks, or even play any meaningful role in them. In the vaccine roll-out programme the Cabinet decision will have been 'do we vaccinate people or not'. A bit of a no-brainer, so they managed to get the decision right. The credit you look to give is to the NHS, Local Authority and Civil Service staff who between them have made the delivery programme work.

So the government are in no way responsible for the test and trace farce then? By your measure its simply a question of “do we test and trace or not”
