You know the world’s in trouble when he starts to sound like a moderate statesman.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

It's kind of a testimony to both the UK and the USA that no matter how morally compromised they can appear, how stupid, hw incompetent and corrupt they are, they can always find a new level.

Astonishingly, he looks like a model of intellect, decency and competence compare to both Trump and Boris.

Always thought he was a mouthpiece for the darker forces behind him: Cheney, Rumsfeld etc. With age and no right wing voices whispering in his ear, he seems to have grown into a sensible elder statesman.

With right-wing and centre-right governments, there’s been a fairly uninterrupted slide right in both the UK and US.

It’s hardly surprising that, looking back in the rear-view mirror, people like Dubya look more and more sensible. But they were still responding to society’s needs with a neo-liberal, imperialist and exceptionalist perspective and creating many of the problems, imbalances and inequalities we’re facing today.

The answer? People are still raising the bogeyman of Marxism/communism, and punching a fairly gentle and social democratic left that has never been part of the problem and actually has solutions.
