Funnily enough, during the previously mentioned (see other thread) trip to Wales with my best mate, this exact episode came on the tele on the Sunday night (the 2am repeat as is it’s normal time). My friend was absolutely adamant that this old bloke being on there was a positive for TV by promoting an old man exploring his newfound sexuality. For context, before his wife died, he’d never been with a bloke but now feels like he can allow himself to see men and women alike. Which is cool - good for him. Anyway.. we both agreed how the show has become known for that now - in getting different people of all ages ages, sexualities, shapes and sizes and promoting them.
Whether it’s trash television or not (and it is, and even regular viewers will agree on that), the fundamental idea of being positive about everyone on the show and body positivity is actually a very good thing to put on tv for viewers perhaps underneath the sex talk and genitalia. In a world where the number of Instagram likes can affect teenagers mental health and ‘image’ is seen as the most important thing to young people, this programme actually plays a good role in society in a surprising way imo - especially considering it’s target audience is under 30s. | |
