Can you blame us? We got Keane, Jewell, Hurst and Lambert instead.

Well he can't have done any worse, but I'm a fairly strong believer in not going back.

Just makes me chuckle how every time the hotseat has been vacant in the last 20 years, there have always been more than a handful of voices for Burley, Curbishley and perhaps strangest of all, Glenn Hoddle!

I am sure had we hired Sir Bobby in 1990 had he wanted the gig we'd have done alright...

Not saying we should hire Burley now but in 2018 he and Butcher would have probably been smart enough to play for points and keep us in the league, unlike Lambert.

there's quite a difference from arsenal fans wanting to get wenger back
(unquestionably their most successful ever manager
took them over as a mid-table prem team
left them as perennial champions league qualifiers)

to us wanting burley back
(3rd or 4th most successful ever manager
took us over as a very poor prem team
left us as a mid-table championship team on the verge of administration)

we're a forgiving lot!

Tbf I suspect age or time plays a big part in that, Wenger only left 3 years ago, plenty of their current fan base were around & have experience of when he managed the club

Burley and ITFC parted ways almost 20 years ago (18 years 7 months or so)

In November it will be 27 years since he was appointed, Ed Sheeran still lived in Yorkshire back than.

That's a much bigger gap in time and easier for the talk of glory days to make it seem like ex players who achieved success are the perfect managers

But no one was calling for Burleys return when Royle left
