Angela Rayner sacked 19:22 - May 8 with 2720 views | GlasgowBlue | She made a right arse of herself over the Hartlepool Tory candidate last week. Next up should be Annelise Dodds.

She’s been disappointing for me but because she’s evidently tried to back up a largely Labour right leadership. Inevitable that her and Anneliese Dodds are going to carry the can. Stick a fork in Labour. It’s done. I don’t think there’s anybody these party ghouls haven’t betrayed to protect their cushy influence.

Angela Rayner sacked on 19:35 - May 8 with 1968 views | GeoffSentence | Never liked her after she was asked on R4 what the Labour Party would do about poor educational attainment in Norfolk and Suffolk and she responded by dismissing it and talking about education in inner city areas. At that point I figured the labour party didnt have much to offer rural areas.

I'm with you that sacking Rayner goes against the "taking responsibility" line and it's incredibly disappointing if so. There are lots of problems and changes will need to be made but I don't think she's one of them. Hopefully she's just being moved back to education or something like that - she did well there. Crazy time to do it as well. Made 2 good gains in the mayoral race this evening so the focus should be on that.

Which mayoral ‘gains’ would those be? I do think the timing is odd though. Looks premeditated, which means he either disagreed with what she was doing for much of the past few weeks (and did nothing about it then) or he is simply scapegoating. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I know you had hope and optimism for the new regime (and that’s what it is) but this is Vote of No Confidence territory. It’s the worst politics, strategically and tactically, I’ve ever seen. If it’s any consolation, I thought that Starmer and his team were the right choice based on his leadership pledges.

J2 is right. The idea that Rayner was pulling the election strings or even had overall authority is ridiculous.

Lisa Nandy getting demoted? Does have a hint of wildly swing punches all over the place. [Post edited 8 May 2021 20:10]

Praise the Lord. Keir Starmer has united the left. But not in the way he had hoped.

Sounds like he has discovered Lamberts team selection computer. Demoting Nandy would is up there with Lamberts most transparent ‘come and sack me’ behaviour.

We'll see where she's moved but it is very bad strategy and timing. With regards to a vote of no confidence, does this mean that if we lose the next election we can say we'd have won it without "the chicken coup?"

He would do well to. I don't think it's coming back, any more than Scotland has. After all, why would anyone in the North vote Labour, more than is the case anywhere else in the country? The 1980s were a long time ago, the region's industrial prosperity further back still.
