Have to say, the NHS when in full flow are brilliant, huge respect to all involved.

is Pfizer what you had the first time round? Interested to know if there remains a commitment (or ever was one) to duplicating your first shot?

It’s my 1st jab on Friday

No, this was a link by text from UCLH and the same link tells people expecting a second jab that they would be contacted after around 9-10 weeks. I'll follow up if I've heard nothing by this weekend.

Hmmm, turned out I had a second appointment booked in a fortnight ago but I wasn’t actually notified about it. Which was helpful.

Now a slightly awkward Friday lunchtime trip but at least it’ll be done this week.

Yes, I think so. There have been some minor studies of mixing vaccines but I don't think they showed much definitively.

Given the variation in types of vaccines and thus exactly how they work mRNA (Pfizer/Moderna) and viral vector (AZ) then not sure mixing the two types is going to help.

Not sure what happens to anyone who had 1 AZ dose but is no outside the guidelines though.

On the mixing of vaccines, there's a piece in the FT for anyone with a subscription:

Basically, far likelier side effects - fatigue, fever, malaise, headaches - and no firm view yet as to whether the combination leads to a stronger immune response.

Had my firsy AZ done a couple of weeks back at Ivry street - very slick operation.

Only mistake I had was booking it day before my birthday - if I hadnt had birthday already booked off I would have taken it as sick as I felt as rough as a badgers bum. Luck of the draw on side affects though.

Sorry - ANOTHER vaccine question.

How do you find out which one you will be offered? I have booked my first jab, but no mention yet, so do I just find out on arrival?

Reason I ask is I'm under 40, and would rather have an alternative to the the AZ one?

I think you will have one of the others, I'm 42 and was offered Moderna in Ipswich yesterday, I suspect they are using all the AZ on the older people for second doses and the others for the younger 1st dosers.

With regards to finding out, I'm only speculating, but it sounds like if your surgery calls or texts then you will find out from that, if you booked through the NHS website then you will be notified once you arrive.

Thanks mate, I booked direct. Seems the govt guidance is Moderna or Pfizer for under 40's, so fingers crossed.
