I think he did confirm he was injured, even if PC tended to be less than forthcoming on injuries generally.

He played the last 3 or 4 games for Wolves U23s so was fit by the end of the season at least

I hadn't spotted that. I assume they felt it wasn't worth him coming back. I do think PC released some players early just to reduce the numbers around the training ground. Think the sheer number was seen as unwieldy.
