Maybe Cook hasn’t told the like of Downes, Dozzell Jr 10:39 - May 14 with 20434 viewsVic

Woolfie, KVY and Dobra that he doesn’t want them. It could well be that he’s sat them down and said ‘Here’s the deal Luke, I know I’ve been tough and said some harsh things, and I will be bringing in a whole batch of new players. But I’d like you to stay and be part of this, however, if after this season you want to go I will understand that and won’t stand in your way.’

I think that’s quite feasible and very different to saying he wants them out. I mean, it’s clear he rates them, and Norwood, so why would he bin them? I think there’s more to this than we think, and I wonder if we’ve got the wrong end of the stick. Clearly Watson and Warren know more than they are letting on at the moment. They are running the story in a way that generates clicks for their paper (it’s what they are paid for), but they said themselves in the podcast that there’s things they know but haven’t said.

knowing one of the players who has been told he can go, I can assure you that this saviour Cook lacks class and cannot work with players he did not sign. There were very very few one on one chats and most told in a group they would never play for Ipswich again so get another club, see you later.

In fact pretty much from day one, he was universally disliked which would explain the lack of desire to work hard for him.

We might think get rid of them all, they are usless but it is embarassing that every single player has been told they can leave, every single one of them.

Dear oh dear, the 4th manager that the players don't like and don't want to work for.

We really don't have much luck do we?

See this is why you never know who does indeed know players and have to take everything you read with a pinch of salt.

We've got various accounts which say individual discussions were had, despite being very quick meetings.

Yeah I should just trust everything I read on the internet!

I just want some evidence before believing "sorry, I'm bombing you out', with no real context or justification as to why." If it was really like that then that's poor from Cook.

Honestly, there was one meeting for all of the players under contract still which contained pretty much all of them bar a couple of them who had one on one meetings.

there were individual discussions also with some but in the main all contracted players were given short shrift and told they would not play again for ipswich town and to get other clubs.

Valid points. After the past couple of seasons, you could make a case for just about all of our players leaving I guess. Personally, I think there's a handful that have something to offer. But for me it's as much for me about how things are done. There's a certain standard I would expect and it all just lacks a bit of class IMO. Maybe I'm a bit old school with it, but for someone who has been at the club since they were 7 years old, you would think they might've commanded a bit more respect than a 2 minute chat to say 'sorry, I'm bombing you out', with no real context or justification as to why. It's not about being sentimental, and admittedly I'm not perfectly neutral in it, but the callousness of it all p1sses me off to be honest.

Football is a ruthless game, both clubs and players are ruthless and thus they probably expect the same from the opposite party as to what they would do themselves. Players often say they want to leave and break their contracts without any real reason given.

I do agree that some more explanation could be given to the individuals around the decision making but I also think they probably don't care if they are being told they are surplus to requirements.

How do you think it should be handled? Individual meetings at the very least of course but apart from that talking to someone for 2 hours and then sacking them anyway isn't that great for them either.

Skimming over the board I may have missed some context here though.

In fairness the players loved Lambert when he first came in I spoke to one senior player who told me that after a few weeks he was certain lambert was going to be the best manager he'd ever played under he was that good, and they loved Mick full stop.

Lambert just had a massive personality transplant at some point and decided he was going to stop talking to anyone and bowl around like he was Fergie and only needed to show his face every now and again whilst his assistant wasn't up to it.

Whatever peoples thoughts on decisions made, Cook has shown a complete lack of class in the whole matter. I'd been told a couple of weeks ago he'd had to massively change tact because he had p155ed everyone off and had started trying to put the olive branch out.....that obviously went.

The insider knowledge is contradicting itself.

In practical terms, it doesn’t matter what we believe was discussed in the group and in private. Much of it could easily be about sending out a message and drawing a line in the sand, so that any players who are still here when pre-season comes around know it’s a new start on the same terms that the new signings will have.

Sure, Cook probably doesn’t fancy a number of the players and thinks he can get better. But the most important thing overall is to change the mentality.

We go round in circles though Joe, we want new ownership, we want new manager but we want a nice manager and we want owners that have a plan and lo and behold they are ruthless, not like the Cobbolds...

Enough's enough for me, we either want to be successful or we want to carry on in a state of flux and comotised, you can't have it both ways, yes in an ideal world it would be nice if Cook sat down with them all individually over a coffee and let them down gently, but he is a guy who is under huge pressure to succeed, there is no room for sentimentality here, organisations that thrive don't accept mediocrity and rightly so.

Given the rebuild he has on his hands, it's going to be ruthless, he has limited time to get a gelling team together, if you're not part of the plans then it's wasting everybody's time just putting off the inevitable.

Don't get me wrong, I've been torn over some of his decisions, but ultimately all these players have been turgid for years now, there's no getting away from it regardless of how we feel.

The way i see it, they didnt like lambert when his personality changed as the players werent doing what he wanted

the same as PC was a nice smiley manager on his arrival, cuddled them, tried to boost their spirits and turned when he couldn;t get them to do what he wanted

With Mick, he was a mate type manager, draws away were fine, he'd be happy not to get on the bus etc etc, the player mentality has been weak for years.

It is time it changed, this may include some of the old coaching staff etc too, but we need 100% winners, who care if we don't win a game
