Could have easily made Champions League that year.

Remarkable achievement.

some things are difficult to believe they actually happened - Oldham, Barnsley and Bradford being in the premiership, QPR finishing 5th, Wimbledon there for a good few years and finishing 6th and 9th, Swindon in the premiership, is still one that most miss at the quizzes.

Man City relegated twice

Bolton there only a few years ago and now barely surviving as a club. Wigan, Coventry and Sunderland all ending up like us.

How many have risen from our situation - not many. Our friends up the Road maybe, Burnley and maybe a couple of others. But it is a hard slog and you need an owner with deep pockets who knows enough about football to know they really know nothing and appoint the right people to get the job done.

How many have risen from our situation?
Man City
Leicester
Southampton
Norwich
Leeds
Shef Utd

Not really sure Burnley qualify because they weren't in the top flight in the 'modern era', nor perhaps Brighton, Wolves, Fulham or Bournemouth, but they all tool journeys from where we are now to the Prem in a fairly short period.

Man City being a bit of an exception there as in they had a new owner come in Chelsea style with ludicrous amounts of money.

No longer recognisable as the football club they had been previously.

I am grateful for that in the sense we have been taken over by people who do seem to have some understanding of what it means to be a supporter.

And not some oil-rich baron type who really could suck the soul from the club, which is a phrase that's been over-used somewhat.

The more I look at those types, the more I think we might have been fortunate here.

What you don’t need is a manager appointing his drinking buddies as coaches when they’re really job-sharing the role of designated driver.

I loved that game. My first (and only) time in the new South Stand. Cementing our position at 5th in the Premier League. Relegating Citeh. A great evening in the Three Jolly Sailors. Local digs for the night, Club shop in the morning and then off home.

There is an argument that had we finished 13th instead of 5th we would not have taken the path we have done. Our investment in a squad to compete in Europe and the toll that playing on a Thursday evening took on our league form were killer blows.
