I find it amusing to mention John Wark to Liverpool fans, most of them have never heard of him, or aren't aware he played for them.
They then scoff when you tell them he was one of they most prolific midfielders they have had in their entire history. |
To be fair most football fans don't know Ipswich has ever won the League, FA Cup, Europa League and so on, and don't even know that Sir Alf or Sir Bobby managed here, let alone our legendary players, even if they played elsewhere.
Manure fans don't know Brazil and Muhren ever played for them, or who they are. We're barely ever mentioned by the football mainstream and this comes from the fact that over the last 35 years we've played almost as much third division football as we have done top flight now, and we desperately need to break out of that before we fade into further obscurity.
Ask them about 2001, Marcus Stewart and so on, they won't know about it. The only player they will recall at all is Bramble, because he played in the top flight a long time for various clubs but they won't know he ever played for Ipswich, same with Dyer.
Remember how we used to view clubs like Port Vale and Stockport. Well that's how everyone else views Ipswich now. It's sad, but we're a niche. |  |
