Does anyone ever think we will belt out Ed Sheeran's tune about Suffolk in the same way Hibs fans belt out the Proclaimers song about their part of Edinburgh?

Better version of same day

Given the location of the people who own 90% of the debt that bought the club, maybe Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young would be a better song?

Strange rumours from Nixon's writing
We're no longer on our own
This summer we've players coming
Signed straight from Ohio

Gotta get down to it
Players had taken us down
Should have been done long ago
What if you knew him
And found him up at the ground?
100 points don't you know?

It makes sense to the thousands of Ipswich fans who come from Suffolk or further afield and not Ipswich itself.

If Town relied for its support purely on the people of Ipswich coming through the gates then we would be a genuine third division club in terms of attendances.

Ipswich Town represents Suffolk as much as Norwich represents Norfolk.

It's called the East Anglian derby because the fanbases encapsulate both counties in their entirety.

Just watched the Hibs fans anthem of this song on Youtube. Tremendous stuff and incredibly poignant lyrics. Big thanks for posting about it.

I love all kinds of music though largely lean towards the Indie stuff - but am not too much of a music snob to recognise a cracking tune when I hear one which I think ‘Castle on the Hill’ is. It’s a song about memories which I’m sure as fans we can relate to, looking back on good days past and whilst not about Ipswich it’s by a massive Ipswich fan about Suffolk! What do people want? Someone born outside the corn exchange to write a song about the marina?
‘We’re on our way
We still remember When Warky could play
And Bobby had all the answers
And I miss the way you make me feel
Cos it’s real
We watched the Ipswich and we all support them still!!

Needs work but someone cleverer than I could make a great anthem out of it that is actually ours!

I hope not, all this stuff is a bit too cheesy for smaller clubs in my opinion, if it’s an identity thing then we should have demanded “moneys too tight to mention” when ME was in charge.

My Scottish team is Hibs because of connections to Sunshine on Leith that I've found out about in the last 10-20 years. Both of my dad's parents were born in Leith, and my mother went to the same school in Fife as the Proclaimers, although about 30 years earlier.

I've loved Sunshine on Leith since I first heard it about 30 years ago because it is such a stirring and emotional song. And whilst I am no fan of Ed Sheeran, I love Castle on the Hill which is equally emotional because it brings back memories of growing up in Ipswich/Suffolk during the Bobby Robson years and of the warm feelings I get whenever I venture back these days.

That sounds pretty good to me. It would be unique to us and I can see the Lower North belting that out.

It's a shame that some put Eds music down so much. I have been lucky enough to have seen many bands of all genres live and his concerts are definitely some of the best I've been to for crowd participation and uplift.

That is quite emotional.

There’s no reason we couldn’t adopt Castle on the Hill as our anthem.

No need to change the words. It’s a homage to Suffolk.

Imagine 40 thousand banging that out at Wembley.

Ed joining in from the Royal box as our new Captain goes to lift the Johnstone paint Trophy.

Fantastic.

Heathy.

We could change the words, it's a fairly simple tune (the chorus anyway) but like you I don't see why we would need to. However, if the music snobs won't sing the original then mjaybe Blue Action could work their magic.

We're on our way
Walking in thousands down
Sir Alf Ramsey Way
Towards statue of Sir Bobby
And we miss the way it made
Us feel
It was real
The sun on the trophies
And us singing loud on the Cornhill

I'm on my way
to Port-man Road and then Sir Alf Ramsey Way
salute Bobby Robson
Cause I miss the way
they made, me feel
it's real
As we watch the Town rise
Over the fortress on the hill.

Kn ew it would work! I wonder if Edward's songs will stand the test of time as well as Neil Young's?

It would make zero sense. What does a song about Framlingham have to do with Ipswich? We aren't Suffolk FC.

Come on, it's Suffolk's one and only professional football club and the fanbase is Suffolk wide and , of course, further afield (like me) but most fans are Suffolk based. Having said that, I acknowledge the fantastic support ITFC gets from Essex.
I think the idea of adapting an Ed song or of him writing one for us is great. Age has nothing to do with it. We want our own great song.
