Having been to 100's of away games over the last 40 years in the North West and Yorkshire, only been to PR once, many moons ago

However I want to go to a couple of home games this season with my wife - definately first home game of the season - make a weekend of it

Long journey from Leigh, however can you good people recommend some decent hotels close to the centre but also PR please?

Pentahotel might be worth looking at. Stayed in the one in Warrington for work once and it was pleasant. Only got as far as the bar in the Ipswich one but that's nice enough. Close to the ground / town of course.

It depends on your budget and which facilities would be helpful: eg free on site parking, would you want a pool or spa facilities?

And would you want the hotel to be right in the heart of the vibrant nightlife, or a short walk away somewhere quieter?

Budget is moderate - probably a bit quieter

Premier Inn or Travelodge are pretty good value .

Premier Inn at Sproughton with a nice pub / restaurant next door is not far out of town if you prefer to be out of town

Salthouse towards the top end of the market, through Novotel, Pentahotel to Premier Inn are all within a few minutes walk of PR.

It’s really nice and on the waterfront next to Isaac’s so it really is ideal.

If it’s a bit pricey then as Clive mentioned The Penta is more than ok, especially for a mid range gaff. Keane use to stay there before he moved to Woodbridge.

I have stayed at Mermaid on a couple of occasions

Bland, corporate and utterly inoffensive

Loads of parking and just a few mins walk from the PR

And cheap, clean etc

Novotel is good for positioning as well as ideal for town center if you want to go in there in the evening, they have parking as well, it's where we stay when we stay overnight, we travel from Doncaster, so can get there and back in a day Ok but if we do stay over thats' the ne for us, not too expensive either

I have visited Ipswich about 20 times and stayed at several hotels, except Salthouse out of my budget). I always come back to Novotel, the location is just great for everything. Close to the waterfront, city centre, Portman Road.
Premier Inn at the Waterfront is good, quiet, good beds.
Pentahotel is liked by many and it was decent, just not my style..a bit dark and the location felt a bit off.

Depends what you mean by moderate really. As others have said Salthouse is by far the best hotel near to the centre of town, but also the most expensive - c£100-120 a night for a standard room last time I checked but that was a while back

Otherwise its pretty much just chain offerings with their usual offering - not that there’s anything wrong with that if you’re just looking for a bed and a base for a day or 2

I believe Mick stayed at the Salthouse when he first arrived.

Over the years many new players have stayed there. In the past we have done weekends away in Ipswich salt house is excellent but pricey. Premier Inn on the water front is extremely good value for money . You get free parking at both, or you did last time we stayed.

For the record our Ipswich weekend away would include a home game, theatre visit and cruise on Orwell Lady and on Monday morning only a ten minute drive home.

If you can hang on for a bit, they are planning to build a Travelodge behind the Churchmans stand, where Staples and Fitness First were.

Another vote for the Novotel here.

If your budget is limited then my vote goes to the Premier Inn at the Waterfront. Technically not on the Waterfront but a good location all round.

Another vote for The Salthouse. Pricey but really nice - we only get to about 2 home games per season so it's justifiable to splash out a bit. We get a family room for 4 which is very spacious.

Saw Chambers, Skuse and Wayne Brown there on our last visit.
