That pre-season starts in 4.5 weeks time?

Every manager ever says you want to have the vast majority of your squad in place for the start of pre-season to bed players in and get them familiar with the playing style you are going to expect them to play.

I would think that would be doubly true of a squad where more than half of them are new signings.

Is it really realistic to expect Cook to get all the players (and the quality of players) he wants in that time? Given that we're going to be competing with Championship clubs to sign them as we are led to believe.

I honestly struggle to see it happening.

My only concern is with Rhodes, Waghorn, Defoe, Bradley and others all turning us down we might end up with egg on our faces next season if we put together a weaker squad than the one we released. We can't match 3 teams in this league for wages, let alone the Championship sides. We are taking a huge risk. This also reminds me far too much of Hurst when he pointed out what Cook has, and put a sledgehammer through the team and demoralized the club. People cheered Hurst for much the same at the time and this is looking the same to me but I will try and stay positive. We've certainly loaded our back room with Cooks mates, so here is hoping we're aren't just turning into a Liverpool mates club and he's actually made this appointments to make a difference. Although hiring Jeffers is reprehensible in my view.

We don't even know if any of those players turned us down. We don't know how strong our interest was in them do we?

Anyway, if we are trying to tempt players from a higher level I think it's fair to expect that for every one player willing to drop down you'll talk to ten who aren't. That's no reflection on us. Got to kiss a lot of frogs.

You have such certainty.

I wish I could.

But the fact remains. 4.5 weeks to virtually fill a squad roster with the best of the best league 1 can afford.

People saying lots of clubs haven't made lots of signings yet, but we have set out our stall for a COMPLETE rebuild and most other league one clubs would (i would think) see 3-4 out the door and 3-4 in. The job here is totally different.

I am just saying it is a big ask.

That's not true at all of most L1 clubs. Most of these teams change half their players every summer.

There is every chance that by this time next month we'll have 8 or more new players. Add a few more before the window closes and we'll be good shape.

Then we just have to win some football matches.

If I see someone mention how we lack depth in our roster to cover the players we have on our IL I will lose the plot.

Also, if I hear a single person say "Ipswich Town Wins!" at any point in the future rather than "Ipswich Town Win!" I'm checking out of this world and into the next.

That is what is being reported. I think Evans is to blame leaving so many players out of contract at the same time, probably to help him down negotiate the wages after the 2nd season when the wage restriction rules apply. As proven by being a few points off Playoffs and having a good back-line, we were not as far away from being able to be promoted as Cook is making out with the players we had. We just needed a couple of forwards, a couple of wingers and an attacking midfielder, not a whole new squad which won't have time to gel.

Which 3 teams can't we match in this league for wages?

As far as I've seen all the local journalists (Phil, EADT) have reported wed be able to match most champ clubs if we wanted (though obviously wage rules stop that)

So im curious as to who those teams in league 1 we can't match. IMO were probably the top club in league 1 that could offer the most.

Got any proof that all of those turned us down?

I think the only confirmation we have is that Bradley decided to stay at Luton.

The rest you are just adding for effect.

If you haven't followed the news on many channels I don't see why I should have to repeat all the details here, if you have proof they were never approached please post here. Rhodes father had talks, we couldn't match his wage requirements, this was publicized, Waghorn a non starter, again, wages, Bradley used the deal as leverage with Luton for more money, Defoe's wage demands priced us out as our owners specifically chased him as a marquee signing. I don't know what else I can say. They are NOT coming here.

It doesn't work that way. You've made an assertion and the burden of proof is on you. If it worked the way you are implying I could say we approached Ronaldo but he turned us down and it would be your job to prove me wrong, that is clearly ridiculous.

So two of them didn't turn us down at all, they were never offered anything because clearly the wages were two high.

Perhaps it's best not to believe everything you see on Twitter and it's equally not a good idea to get stroppy when someone asks for evidence for the things you are claiming.

You are posting as if you are somehow more enlightened than everyone else, I don't think many really expected Waghorn or Defoe to come here.

I would be fairly confident that there are a number of players that are waiting to sign on the dotted line.

Ashton doesn't even join until next week and a lot of the players will be on their holidays in the first two to three weeks after the season finished.
