Zero Covid deaths reported today 16:11 - Jun 1 with 1263 views | 26_Paz | First time since the start of the pandemic. I know it’s a BH weekend when less reporting, I know there is concern over the Indian variant but this is fantastic news, if only as something as a milestone in the grand scheme of things.

Thought 30th July 2020 was 0? But either way it doesn't matter, its encouraging progress and long may it continue. The vaccine is highly effective, great to see it's going into so many peoples arms so quickly.

It says that day would have been 0 based on current counting method but a different method was used at the time or some such technicality. Agree re not distracting from overall positive message.

Zero Covid deaths reported today on 17:38 - Jun 1 with 1000 views | Sparky85 | Another huge milestone reached, regardless of reporting days and previous numbers. Would be great to see a true weekday Zero number. Hopefully we aren't too far away
Zero Covid deaths reported today on 18:16 - Jun 1 with 949 views | Gogs | Absolutely. I am no fan at all of this government and the way they have handled things in this pandemic. But I do think the key stats now are hospitalisations and deaths rather than case numbers themselves. The vaccine program seems to be having a very positive impact on those numbers, and vaccine doses given are outpacing case numbers greatly. I think we'll continue to see a bit of a rise in case numbers over the next week or 2 but I think 21 June might still happen, it might yet get pushed a week or 2, but I'm cautiously optimistic it'll go ahead without it leading to a disastrous 3rd wave. I'd qualify the above by saying whilst I don't have the full set of data in front of me to look at, I do know a fair bit about statistics as it's a large part of my job (in a different field). I believe that case numbers in Bolton are levelling off now. There has to and will come a point where it becomes an endemic disease like flu and if the key stats are kept to similar levels, or rather levels acceptable enough not to overwhelm hospitals, then like it or not we'll just have to get on with it.

Exactly my thoughts and couldn’t have put it any better than that, spot on.

Zero Covid deaths reported today on 19:25 - Jun 1 with 846 views | HARRY10 | It is the hospital numbers that count, to pout it bluntly - much as in war. A dead soldier does not impede on the enemy as much as a wounded soldier, who will need numerous others to treat and progress him back to battle (or not). Put bluntly, dead bodies do not cause the trouble or cost that those needing hospital treatment to - so that is where the focus will be on, not any daily death toll. Callous as it is that is what is focussing attention. A deadful position though, as each and every death will be a huge loss to family and friends, and does not address the suffering and pain caused to the victim and the above. My thought is that the low (nil) death rate is probably a lull before the 'storm' and should not be seen in isolation.

Definitely shouldn’t look at it in isolation but coupled with low numbers in hospital and early signs that the Indian variant is not vaccine resistant I think we can afford to be a bit more positive than that.
