I do think recently that a bit of a bullying culture has developed on here. It's a bit ugly to be honest.

Nothing wrong with joking and having a debate, but there are some on here who attack everything certain posters on here say, regardless of whether they agree with it or not. And that's a bit crap.

I'm not part of any #BeKind movement but maybe think for second about the person on the recieving end of your 'witty retort'. Some people have a pretty low threshold after a lot of time locked indoors with the pandemic, especially ones with pre-existing mental health issues. Maybe think about how you word it, it doesn't take more than an extra minute.

We all support the same team after all. COYB!

Honestly mate, like I said the other day, I think it's best that I stick you on my ignore list. I didn't bother the other day because I thought you'd gone, but if you're sticking around then I think it's for the best.

I find that you make this place exhausting, and much harder work than a football forum should be. Too. Much. Drama. Others obviously feel differently, so I wish you all the best and I think it's wise if we give each other a wide berth!

Then just do it as there's no need to tell the world.

CM has either skewed or misunderstood te reality of this post. As a few have said, the representation of facts are in question.

He's had a robust reaction for what seemed to be an implication that Joe made up his information- and once that robust reaction was out there-the poo hit the turbine.

If one makes a strong /outlandish / rubbish rumour post, then one should be ready for a robust reply

I saw the original thread, and he did question the source. Even if he did feel that Joe's post was a lie, the original accusation was shocking and it is perfectly reasonable to question it or the poster.

When it comes to reliable sources, they are not always right. The legendary Greyhound even got the kit release date wrong from memory.

The way I see this is CM rubs some people up the wrong way. But by and large CM is a nice person and doesn't deserve what has become a consistent stream of negativity.

Each comment, generally speaking, in isolation, isn't an issue. But it is regular amount of criticism, and I believe it is unfair.

You can't like every personality and I think the ignore function is best for a few people who get annoyed by the frequency of posts. You can always revisit the ignore function in the future, if you change your mind.

Exactly this. No one with an ounce of sense wants a vanilla bland board. And this is why this is such a great site as the views on football, history, politics etc are interesting and do sometimes get heated.

Also, the role of the moderator isn’t to protect a posters sensibilities or to stop that person from getting ‘pilled on’ but to stop such argument from getting abusive, libellous and downright vile.

If, for example, I was to post something ‘edgy’ or ‘controversial’ without the evidence to backup such an argument then I wouldn’t class it as bullying if thirty posters replied with actual evidence telling me that my reasoning was flawed. That is not bullying and if people think it is then they shouldn’t be on the internet at all.

That last paragraph is exactly right.

When it is general politics, I try and type more passively. Often, if I think comments will be taken the wrong way, I simply delete them and don't post them.

When I feel people have gone for me personally on lightweight topics, I've simply blocked them.

But when it comes to issue like race, sex, disability (thankfully I've never encountered this one on here), etc I will go after people if they show themselves to have sustained bigotry or a clear and calculated motive.

People don't then let that go when those same posters start posting on other topics. And why should they? If someone was being racist or defending racists one moment and then happily moving onto another topic a few minutes later in person, this wouldn't fly with me. And I can see why it doesn't fly with people on here.

That and people start crying when their bigotry is held to account by multiple posters.

It's worth noting that I'm seen as being in some sort of rabid left-wing group by some of these bigoted people. But the reality is I've had strong disagreements on issues like Nazism, veganism, environmental sustainability.

I'm not in some sort of consensus block, I just will not tolerate people denying others the right to equality.

A resounding this ^.

Most of those getting the most aggressive resposnses are generally those who've been openly fishing for arguments and/or posting dog-whistley nastiness for a long time. They get the 'nasty' treatment because people are mostly s1ck of their bullsh1t. Every so often one steps over the line properly and Phil bans them.

Goodness. I only wanted to suggest people just tried not to be quite as vitriolic to each other and appear to have unleashed a tsunami of he said she said. Pretty ironic the OP is getting more traffic than posts about our first signing of the summer that actually unites everyone in thinking Wes Burns is a good addition.

Sorry nah, this is speculation for the sake of it.

He's had 12 months to get this right.

He's done absolutely everything he could think of to be as unpleasant and difficult as possible, in every single way viable.

It's just so weird how it's always his nightshift whenever he's been caught in a lie or has come close to blowing his plausible deniability!

Speculation yes, but certainy not for the sake of it.

I simply remember how it felt to be falsely accused of "running away" by the same two people for years, when actually I had genuine things I needed to do and always without exception came back to reply within a few hours.

Eventually it turned into a bit of a standing joke bantz on here & that was fine. (You may remember my "going to walk the mutt!")

i do think this has got a lot worse during the pandemic. there's a group who seem to have become angrier and are using the board as a sort of group therapy - they post stuff repetitively, agree with each other more and more fervently, and attack the same people again and again. i hope it's working for them, but it's pretty much killed the discussion and humour that the board used to be good at.

I would never have used the term ‘plan demic’. That simply did not happen.
Regarding the ‘acceptable deaths’ comment I was talking about Covid reverting to an acceptable level of deaths and had actually taken the words directly from
Chris Whitty. He was saying that Covid will never completely go away, it will become like flu and will revert to being a season disease that, yes, sadly kills people but this is at a level (numbers wise) that is deemed ‘acceptable’ by society and doesn’t necessitate lock downs. At the time I accepted I may have phrased things insensitively and thought everyone had accepted that. Not sure why it’s come up again now.

On BLM, you characterised the people disagreeing with as having a meltdown.
You thought that was an acceptable way to describe people that made valid points about racism and
BLM

“I’m sorry, sir, but I am not going to be apologising to you or anyone else for using the word ‘meltdown’. Good day.“

Your re-telling of the CV discussion is disingenuous. You didn’t quote Chris Whitty, and then apologise.

You said things like “ There should be no restrictions on liberty whatsoever..”
And
“ As crude as this may sound I do not believe that a plus 80 person living another year or so is worth a year of a child’s education.”

And then your apology was for for lack of eloquence only.

“ I’d had a couple of beers last night and wasn’t quite as eloquent as I perhaps should have been and for that I apologise. My point hold though.”

You then continued to talk about making bold decisions and taking risks.

Not sure you once directly quoted Chris Whitty.
