TWTD is the only place I ever see the word, can someone illuminate me on what it actually means in a football context or is Phil making it up as he goes along? I'm presuming it has something to do with a midfield role?

That you read the game well, can pick a pass and act as a playmaker when transitioning from defence to attack?

Edit: I understand from our recent experience that all this may sound pie in the sky for a footballer, but some professional players can do all of those things and more!

Journos will use words like that to avoid having to say 'midfielder' 20 times in one article.

Ah makes sense, could sign two 'schemers' in a week, what a revelation.

Also:

"Upper V Also "upper 90". Refers to the intersection of the crossbar and goalpost." Who knew?

Schemer = Jim Magilton.

The kind of playing that seeks out the ball, demands it from his teammates, and looks to affect the game in a positive manner.

In answer to your second question, yes Phil definitely makes it up as he goes along. Don't we all, eh?

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Ah but you missed some classics.

"The 6 - An abbreviation referring to the goal area"
"The 18 - An abbreviation referring to the penalty area"
"Boots - Soccer shoes"

"Illegal arm infringement in the end zone. PK!"

OK I nicked that last one from Soccer AM
