Norwich terminate BK8 sponsorship deal 09:22 - Jun 10 with 6016 viewsTractorCam

Just 3 days after it was announced

Poll: An interesting day for our politicians, but which one is worse?

Indeed in part, but perhaps this time they should do better market research.

I make you right.
Announcing it at the same time CH4 did that Football Gambling expose was a bit daft.

Someone at Norwich is getting the sack, or at best the mother of all b0ll0ckings, for the lack of due diligence on BK8.

In this day of information at your fingertips it is incredible that they didn't do the most basic research.

The BK8 statement is even better, they've announced it as 'mutual termination'.

Can definitely see an unheard of gambling company with a social media presence less populated than Bildeston cancelling a deal with a Prem club.

Inevitable - still lots of damage to their brand though that they even considered the agreement. Not to mention it has probably cost them a few million in breaking the contract and they will also end up with a sponsor that won’t pay as much.

That puts the deal in a new light.
Little to do with gambling addiction and more to do with soft porn.
I guess there's a line somewhere you shouldn't cross but that rather suggests that the Norwich bar is quite low.

I heard BK8 have done their due diligence on Norwich and decided it's not for them.

Yep, the soft porn image was somewhat tarnished by being associated with participation, rather than getting the full job done, so to speak.

The skeptical part of me wonders if this was always the plan. What more promotion can an unheard of betting company get, than all this over the press. At the same time Norwich are getting the press and no doubt when they announce their new sponsor it will be another story. So potentially for higher revenue from new sponsor?

You would think clubs would do some form of audit as to how a potential sponsor conducts themselves on social media etc.

I suspect they will now need to be squeaky clean and will avoid a betting company as a sponsor, which is good news.

Interesting theory, although not sure anyone comes out of this looking good. The betting company is obviously known to us over here now, but not in a good light.

Maybe Norwich pulled the stunt as they were jealous of the Ed Sheeran love in?

Don't be daft, it's an enormous own goal for Norwich. That they've done the right thing now won't change the fact that they agreed this in the first place.

Anyway, talking of massive own goals:

This is incredible. How did this deal come about in the first place?

It will cost Norwich quite a whack of cash if the deal was completed.

I can't get my head around how football authorities and clubs in England campaign for all types of social justice causes yet take millions of pounds from betting firms. Gambling addiction is a major scourge in the land and leads to all manner of mental health issues.

In the 80s it was electronic companies, 90s beer, 2000s communications. All were ethically fine. Now the gambling companies have taken hold and I can't see football turning its back on them as there is too much money involved.

Also, who in the right mind ever thought it was a good idea to legalise online gambling. The companies have so much power and hold over Governments. We should revert to the days where you had to go down to the bookies to lay a bet.

BK8 being known over here is irrelevant, their aim will have been to get exposure in Asia which this almost certainly won’t have got them

Whatever new deal Norwich strike will certainly be for less, given that:

1) BK8 was presumably the best offer on the table hence signing it in the first place, and
2) Gambling firms will likely be off the table now, as whilst that wasn’t the final straw that aspect also got pushback from the fans

That said, The Athletic mention the deal was worth £5m per year - so financially it’s probably only a small blow in the scheme of things

£5m a year is a hell of a sponsorship deal for Norwich. I doubt Town have ever got near that type of deal.
