Peter Walton a former ref who is employed by BT during the regular season so keeps up to date with the rules confirmed it.
We've seen the same in the Prem over the last season. I would agree it's not the most sensible of rules. | |

Think of it much like say the issue of returning Indian holiday makers, or Northern Irish importers of sausages.

What's even crazier, is if the defender was facing the other way towards Lukaku and the ball merely deflected off his backside, then Lukaku would have been offside, because there was not a deliberate attempt to play the ball on the part of the defender... |  |

Well for me its got to be offside . When the ball is played forward Lukaku is off simple as . If the ball forward had reached the goalkeeper who palmed it back out and Lukaku had scored that way it would have been chalked off , why is that different ? The problem is if it is clear offside the Lino should flag none of this waiting to see what developes rubbish . The offside rule should be as simple as possible so the average fan can understand it . At the moment the experts dont understand it and are arguing amongst themselves what is right and what is wrong ! |  | | |
