Interesting addition to contract for my new job 22:02 - Jun 14 with 1552 viewschrismakin

Company has recently won a specific contract with the government...

Reading through the contract terms there is an interesting clause i've never seen in any contract before

" The Company reserves the right to temporarily lay off employees without pay or to
reduce your normal hours of work (and to reduce your pay accordingly) if in the view of
the Company this is necessary. You will be given not less than 24 hours; notice of any
such lay off or reduction of your normal working hours.

Is it just me that reads that as a pre emptive winter lockdown arrangement?

I'd say nothing sinister re government, but it does look like a covid insurance clause to look after your employer but screw employees.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

It hasn't been written by a competent lawyer, unless you've paraphrased it.

Your employer cannot unilaterally change your employment contract. Get your union onto it, assuming you have one.

I think it says contract for his new job - so not a forced variation to a new contract.

Similarly this is not designed to screw an employee - it simply reflects the terms and conditions that an employer is able to offer for a particular post.

The employee is able to freely accept or decline that offer.

It is not feasible for employers to bear the risk of a govt. mandated lockdown. Govt. needs to provide support for individuals financially impacted by lockdowns.

Mcdees was open during both lockdowns, so you should be fine.

Not particularly well written, but it sounds like they are covering themselves in case they need to drop down to a four-day week, or less. But a lot of companies have had to do that in the past. I know we have when there has been a recession. But it was done in consultation with the staff and not forced on them.

If you want or need the job then take it, you can always look for something else if the worst happens.
