So my friend is trying to persuade... 16:47 - Jul 1 with 5883 views | Fixed_It | ...her daughter not to get jabbed due to 'the vaccine not being tested properly'. Her son is ignoring the advice because he wants to go partying abroad, but the daughter isn't getting jabbed because of the 'risk to fertility'. Clearly, this is twaddle. What are the social and moral arguments in favour of youngsters (early 20s in this case) getting jabbed?

So my friend is trying to persuade... on 16:53 - Jul 1 by Kieran_Knows | My missus is 28 and pregnant, and she won't be having the vaccine until the babe is born (Xmas time). She has had mixed signals from doctors etc about this, so she's not taking it just to be on the safe side. |

With any luck, it'll kill a few unvaccinated stupid people so the babies the future will be marginally clever?

So my friend is trying to persuade... on 17:01 - Jul 1 by jeera | I can fully understand if someone is already pregnant wanting to hold off. Completely understand that. That's not the same thing as someone who isn't expecting excusing themselves from having the thing to safeguard themselves and the wider population. Congratulations to you both. |
Cheers Jeera, appreciate it. As I said in my previous post, it was the mixed signals she had been getting from her GP, midwife and the doctors/nurses at the hospital which made/us err on the side of caution (forgive me, I can’t remember who from the above said it was safe to have it/who said she was best to wait). She had been willing to get it, even when pregnant.

So my friend is trying to persuade... on 17:56 - Jul 1 with 1007 views | gtsb1966 | I've heard a few people say they won't have it because they don't know what is in it and they don't want that in their body but will happily ingest food and drink with more added chemicals than paint, wash clothes with washing liquid laden with chemicals and spray deodorants, perfumes/aftershaves all over their body. Their argument doesn't hold up at all.

These are the ones that are hardest to persuade to have it. You can't rationally talk to someone about a position they didn't arrive at rationally.

It's not really an argument, they simply don't want it for whatever reason they have and that is their excuse so they can justify it to themselves and others. It's also not true, you can see exactly what is in it: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-pfizer-biontec SB

I have no doubts about the vaccine and was grateful to take it asap but this one I can kind of understand unless i've missed some research saying it won't have any impact. |
I'll tell you what does affect fertility. An intubation tube past your vocal cords.

Don't get me wrong, I'm double jabbed, but surely there's only so much accelerated testing they can do? Give it a few years we might all be walking around with tiny d1cks or something. Finally I'll feel like I belong. |

My wife waited until she'd given birth (three weeks ago today) to our daughter for the same reason. She was so close to the end of her term that it seemed very prudent to wait.

Congratulations. Trust they're both doing well. As I (and others) said to our fellow poster there, a mum's first instinct is to do whatever she can to protect her baby and rightly so. I am pro-vaccine all day long but if that were me I would be cautious of my missus taking anything we weren't 100% certain of whilst carrying. Following the birth etc, then sure, it's the wise thing to do. [Post edited 1 Jul 2021 20:16]
