There are so many reasons why this is wrong.
Whoever controls the camera needs to have a good long think. - on what planet was it a good idea to zoom in on a crying child?
The whole camera in the crowd thing leaves me stone cold at the best of times - I may be an old git but I go to watch a game of football, and I really don’t want to be expected to wave and gurn for the crowd.
When there’s cretins like this on Twitter, that are prepared to post abuse to a young emotional child simply because she happens to be German something is horribly wrong. |

I'm not woke, nor am I a snowflake. I know what football fans are like and I've seen and heard worse back in the 80s. But the Twitter comments aimed at this girl are vile and there should be repercussions.
If that's an acceptable part of modern society, I'm out. It's not banter, it's just sick.
Social media has become the Wild West, with toothless laws, a lack of decency and respect and an inability to acknowledge others may not share your views.
I don't think a crowdfunding page was the best way of resolving the issue. It would have been a more meaningful gesture getting the girl something from the England or the German team.
But maybe this incident will make the morons think twice next time, although I suspect not.
Having seen football in many countries, the general feeling towards the England football fan is not complimentary. In fact, we're reviled in certain cities and countries.
It always amazes me that people still think we're liked as a team and a footballing nation - we're not. There are many decent fans who follow the England team but they are often tainted by the actions of a bunch of d***head Danny Dyers who have watched ID on repeat.
That time has come and gone, no one respects you for it nowadays - with the exception of the 16-year-old Stone Island brigade. And that's not a compliment.
I don't think booing the opposition's national anthem, Germany's or any other's, is the worse thing we do. But I do think it's pathetic and outdated. The same goes for the German bombers song, ask the Dusseldorf fans what they think of that when they next come over.
Like I say, not everyone will agree with my comments and that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion, as am I.

It is, sadly. Saw it just minutes after the game. That sort of thing is just totally out of order, and maybe one of the reasons I've got the arse with this whole thing.

I would say calling a little girl a slut or labelling her old man a paedophile counts as vile.
Calling her a Nazi is also disgusting. I visited Germany regularly before the pandemic and they are well aware of their history and the vast majority are deeply ashamed of it. You get pockets of facism but, in my experience, it’s quickly condemned by the masses.
As for the amount of tweets, does it make it any less offensive if it’s just a minority? Absolutely not, in fact it should make it easier to police and stamp down on it.
