Wouldn't normally post this sort of thing - and apologies if somebody else already has - but I think this worthwhile if you can spare a few pounds.

I was aware of the Twitter posts but hadn't seen them - there's a link to them in the Just Giving page. Profoundly depressing.
It may be a futile gesture but it made me feel a little better to do SOMETHING to try and demonstrate that we're not all *rseholes

The problem is that everyone is making an assumption about those tweets based off the fake xhamster page somebody maliciously created to discredit this guy. I don't know this bloke or what he is into, but those tweets are only suspicious if you read them in the context of the allegations. Without that, it just smacks of a parent sarcastically talking about their kids and their friends kids being a pain. The bloke is being crucified, mainly because the twitter mob believe everything that gets chucked out. It isn't on for people to making these accusations without any actual evidence, that's how lives get ruined.

....when taken entirely in isolation, they need context and could well be totally harmless, agreed.

There are some very random pictures that have surfaced though, they appear to have no context to explain them.

Either way the whole thing is a bit odd and people should not have jumped on the bandwagon whether it was a positive one or a negative one.

Never realised the X Hamster thing was fake. Just shows how far fake news can go these days.

Even more depressing is the fact that when it was trending last night, people were almost gleeful that it was going up against Love Island. Treating this as if it's some scripted reality, getting the popcorn out and having a good laugh at this bloke. It's actually thoroughly depressing how easy it is to discredit someone and how easily morons believe it. Who knows what the truth about this bloke is, maybe he is all the things that he has been alleged to be, but people shouldn't be able to throw that label out and let it stick without evidence and they shouldn't be able to spread falsehoods about it with anonymity either.

I don't know how to do that thing where you share your post from another thread so I'll just have to copy and paste it as I have mentioned the Instagram pictures there.

"Yeah I do think there has been a lot of jumping to conclusions here. Somebody maliciously altered a screenshot of someone else's xhamster account in a bid to discredit this guy.

Then when people went hunting for old tweets with that seed planted in their brain, they interpreted things in a way that fit the narrative they had already decided upon. Most of the tweets come across as a bloke talking about his own kids or friends kids sarcastically being a pain in the backside. The winks on these posts seem to have just tipped some people over the edge on this because they've already made up their mind.

The Instagram posts are weird and pervy, but that doesn't mean he's a nonce. It just means he might be a bit of a dirty old man who thinks that 'bird watching' is perfectly normal. Not defending that either, just differentiating it from what he is being accused of.

Think this is another case of the twitter mob just jumping on someone without any real evidence, and then refusing to budge on what they've committed to when it turns out that a big assumption was wrong. Depressing that these show trials are so prevalent now, particularly without any actual evidence. It's like being in a Black Mirror episode."

I still really don't understand why people are so keep to use social media in having profiles that show the world everything. Is is narcissism? I just don't get it

I'm not telling people not to use social media and have online profiles, after all TWTD is one, but why not use privacy settings for personal accounts

This just shows how quickly your life can be destroyed in a few hours....and if it turns out those tweets were actually not as bad as they seem, and have been taken out of context then the witchhunt will be pretty damning.

When this thing sort of happened in the early years of the internet you could understand people being naïve...but this has happened for years and with some high profile cases and people still don't learn.

It's also applicable to the people who share endless personal info online and the wonder why they are a victim of burglary or cyber crime.

And don't give away personal info on public platforms, including people openly giving away, eg, their DOBs, locations, & when they're about to take their family on a fortnight's holiday, leaving the house empty!

This doesn't mean I think social media platforms shouldn't have a registration system enabling them to know exactly who its users are irl so that they can be held to account for any racist/homophobic/threatening/other totally unacceptable posts. I think they could & should be required to do that.
