... Everton centre back. Loan or permanent deal.

Only 20 years old and 22 first team appearances (on loan to Fleetwood and Reading) under his belt according to wikipedia. You'd think this one would be a loan, possibly with a view to making it permanent?

Would be an interesting one. Not too many senior games at his feet so far, but did 13 in the Championship last year.

His brother plays for Morecambe. Could be a reunion on August 7.

I disagree - there isn't enough about him to suggest he's worth investing in long term. Loan with an option to buy, maybe - but Everton doesn't tend to sell young. (Garbutt being an example)

If on a permanent basis, would really like this one.

Not sure I get this one, if Woolfenden is in favour don't we need a experienced, hairy arsed enforcer to play with him?

His contract up in the summer, loan for 12 month would put him in the free market come next year.

If he has a good loan spell with us, could well end up in a war with other clubs in the free market.

If this link proved correct, it would surely mean that Corrie Ndaba (also 21, and also 13 Championship games - albeit the Scottish version) was in jeopardy. He's currently the left-sided central defender in the Town training group.

They paid a fee possibly rising to 6m for him so not sure how a perm move would work.

If it's only a loan move then surely he's a blocker to Wolfie playing which wouldn't be ideal.

Woolfenden needs an experienced centre back next to him, not another kid. If Gibson joins then it suggests Woolfenden is going.

In the article it says that even if we sign Gibson, an Experienced CB is still a high priority.

Yeah I get that point. But like someone’s pointed out, his contract expires in 12 months and if he plays a blinder he could easily get a better contract elsewhere. If we can get a below million fee, I think it would be worth it. He played well for fleetwood down here and was a bit part player in a decent reading team in the division above. It would be a gamble, but what transfer isn’t?

This is true, though we can't ignore the face this it then becomes a punt.

The CB position is intriguing. If we guess that we will have 4 ‘senior’ CB’s, ideally 2 left footed and 2 right, that makes Wolf and Nsiala the two right footed, and Gibson and a more experienced player for the left. Judging by the fact the only Centre halves we’ve been linked with at this point are Sonny Bradley and Clark Robertson, both of whom are left footed I think, we can safely say whatever CB is brought in will play on the left. Unless Ndaba or Baggott are deemed as suitable backup (I presume both will go out on loan).

Everton and Gibson won’t want a loan deal if he is a ‘backup’ to a more senior left footed CB. I doubt Gibson would come permanently if he is backup. So I reckon he’s either a starter if the move comes off or it’s not happening at all.

If we could get Gibson on a permanent then it would be a cracking signing.

I reckon we'll end up with an experienced stop on a 1 year loan or 1 year deal - we really need to sign an equivelent of a 26-27 year old Luke Chmabers which is going to be incredibly difficult in this league. We thought we had Bradley which would have been perfect - but didn't and now the candidates for that role to signa 3 year deal is a very tiny pool of players.

That deal just may prove impossible to do, but if we could pick up Gibson permanently then ideal - as a loan to compete with Woolf for 2nd spot behind someone not as exciting but may be what's needed

Wasn't Woolfie told he could find a new club?

Not sure PC sees him as a starter.

Since then though Cook has been pretty clear the door is still open and Wolfie is part of the first team training so I would be expecting him to stay now.

Might not be a starter but still don't think a loan in direct competition is helpful long term. Might help get promoted though.
