2nd bid - £600k - rejected for Crooks... on 16:00 - Jul 5 by HARRY10 | eh ? It's very likely Crooks will move on, so it smacks of us not having the financial muscle to compete. The transfer window has almost two more months to run, so there is plenty of time for other clubs to raise funds through player sales. |
The fact we as a league 1 side have even offered 600k shows we are club who can compete financially. We we wont do is overpay. We finally have a footballing experienced ceo in charge of finances.

2nd bid - £600k - rejected for Crooks... on 15:38 - Jul 5 by chrismakin | Dangerous game by Rotherham Reject them and end up missing out on the sale and he will leave for free next summer. Ashton etc arent stupid. They will pull the plug and move on rather than being held to ransom over it. |
Although if Crooks is that good maybe Rotherham are thinking keep him for next season and we get promoted to the Championship and we can hopefully use that to persuade him to stay. Conversely if another club offer crazy moment for him as a L1 player ie £1m then we'll let him leave

Compete with who ? Certainly not in this case, or the Dundee keeper. There is no 'going rate' for a player, only what either club thinks he is worth, so if we up the offer does that mean he has suddenly become better ? My understanding is that many supporters thought we would have the money to buy the quality we needed - not be haggling at the lower end of the market, and getting knocked back.

With clubs are our level What we have now is a ceo who knows what he is doing. We will pay what we are willing to pay. That doesnt mean we cant compete. It means we dont share the same value as that of the selling club which is fair enough. It means we have a sensible person in charge of our finances rather than one who spent the likes of 2.5 mill on the likes of lee Martin the last time we went shopping of this sort [Post edited 5 Jul 2021 16:35]

Have you ever heard of negotiation? We obviously have an upper limit on what we value a player at but you try and get the best deal possible.

No because we are involved in what is called Negotiations. When buying a house do you go straight in with your max bid?

Really, that's very insightful. However, negotiations are best kept private and conducted as speedily as possible. This has all the hallmarks of us being out of our depth, as the thought not long back was that we would have the money to sign who we needed, and the suggested figures are peanuts in comparison to the financial benefits of promotion. Maybe there isn't the money first thought.

Surely not about not having the money as first thought, more balancing the players incoming to remain within FFP. The more we pay on Crooks (or any other player) the less we have on the quality CB we need.
