Your brother didn't literally have a baby.

His partner did.

"My brother has literally had a baby as the second goal went in. He's crying his eyes out, he's had a little girl. It's a special night all round!"

He should be given a talking-to by Mr Southgate for such a grammatical transgression.

Perhaps he literally cried his eyes out and was thus unable to see whence came the baby?

But .....

How do you know the brother wasn't artificially impregnated and has been experimentally growing a foetus?

or is a transvestite who fell pregnant while a woman but is now identifying as a man?

to compound the error he's even given the wrong description of his partners child, which as everyone knows should have been 'a little person capable of giving birth'

Thats a special child if it is capable of giving birth at such an early age.

Easy to see how such a misunderstanding could arise.

Surely the baby is 'a normal sized person for its age, and should in due course develop physically to become capable of giving birth, ceteris paribus'

I was so upset at the original faux pas in the terminology used that I forgot myself. I'll forgo the weekend in Mustique however and just have a lie down.

I would have thought that the incorrect use of 'literally' is not a matter of grammar, but of usage.
