English: Phillips. So close for me between him Sterling and Shaw. But Phillips just gets it for me. He completed the most successful tackles, 15th in ball recovery (3rd for DMs) and he covered the second most distance - 83km across 665mins.

Non-English: Jorginho. Another DM. Only player to cover more distance than Phillips in the tournament. Tied with Akanji for ball recovery and a bit better with the ball than Phillips, allowing the likes of Insigne, Immobile and Chiesa to break quickly and present a constant threat.

English; Shaw. Not even in the team to start with but ended it as vital. English defence was the best part of the team and he was probably the best part of it. Close with Stones and Pickford though.

Everyone else; Bonnuci. Brilliant defender never caught out and inspired his team. Close: Pedri Jorginho and Olmo.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I thought Kane, Shaw and Rice.... on 11:31 - Jul 12 with 1793 viewsunstableblue

.... were just excellent first half yesterday

Philips wobbled initially.

But then found his stride....

All the players were poor second half.. and Sterling really lost his mojo throughout the game. I wonder if Foden could have made a difference.

I think Sterling probably was England player of the tournament overall

English - Luke Shaw. Although thought Kyle Walker had a terrific tournament.

Non-English - Giorgio Chiellini. Maehle was terrific for Denmark, Spinazzola before his injury, Chiesa looks a fantastic prospect - if I am building a dream back four in football right now, he's still the first name I'm putting on the sheet. Fantastic defender.

England - Shaw, Walker, Rice, Sterling. I think I’d go Shaw with Rice second.

Player of the tournament - Italian GK.

Officially Donnarumma has won it, who did well when called upon, just that wasn't that often.

I don't know about overall but I'd have to go with Sterling for England, we have so much competition in his position but he made himself undroppable even for just a few late minutes

Kane had a terrible game. Gave ball away frequently, barely won a header

England
Philips, but the rest all played well, not one bad performance individually really.

Tournament.
Really liked Pedri and Jorginho.

Donnarumma was a bit meh? Not really seen why he was nominated, hardly kept them in games, they were solid throughout.

Shaw for us, ahead of Walker.

Elsewhere, I agree on Jorginho. Also thought Braithwaite was very good for the Danes.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Walker for me. He got us out of jail about a dozen times. Really smart player, athletic, great defender, amazing positional awareness and decision making.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Phillips was great until the final when I found him chasing his own tail a bit.

Chiesa was frightening, absolute electric.

It's tough. Shaw has license to go forward unfettered which at times left our left exposed. Walker clearly wasn't instructed to overlap, which made our right less easy to exploit but meant our attacking options had to work harder.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Not a stand out player a such but one no-body mentions is Stones, covered Maguire's back on countless occasions during the tournament and vastly improved from 3-4 years ago. First 90 last night, Shaw had the game of his life with Rice not far behind until he went off with the knock. Phillips has been excellent but with both he and Rice it (as with Henderson before) it's too defensive. Sterling had a couple of very good games in the quarter and semi but exposed in the final, Saka looks good for the future etc. Grealish criminally underused.

Sterling, Shaw, Phillips, Maguire (he's converted me. I didn't think he was good enough for United but he's been our rock), Walker

Truly impaired.

Only player I would question was Mount. Thought he was a passenger and largely not involved. Grealish was needed earlier.

Atrocious first game though from memory.

I think Sterling personally. His impact and the joy he brings edges it.

Alan Shearer said at half time that Kane was playing the perfect centre forward role.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Surprised at so few mentions of Pickford. Clearly our best player for me. Important saves in almost every game, mostly excellent distribution, and even saved two pens in the shootout. You gotta think you're winning a shootout of your keeper saves two.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I can't ever remember the likes of Shearer dropping so deep that he was sat just outside our own box to pick up a ball to start an attack. He was everywhere............. but not where you needed him to be imo
