To be clear, I was not accusing you, or anyone else in that thread, of bullying. Badger gives as good as he gets.

My point was that the posting something which causes a flurry of posts from others disagreeing is what has usually been labelled bullying by some in the past.

For me it's just people responding to something they disagree with on a message board.
[Post edited 18 Jul 2021 10:36]

Indeed, it's just a number of posters making a contrary point rather than anything orchestrated from any angle. It's the way a forum works. People post something, other people disagree and make contrary arguments. Obviously if it turns into abuse, name-calling etc then that's a different matter but people presenting different arguments is the essence of a forum.

It takes a while to fillet threads in that manner, so is a bit of a pain to do on a Sunday morning.

Come on Phil, what else would you rather be doing on a beautiful summer Sunday morning.

Totally agree with regards to the Rainbow Tractors and their meeting.

However, without wanting to stir it all up again you jumped in pretty quick after Lucan jumped on Badger and then wrote a substantial post on how people were playing for their gangs to get votes which looked a lot like playing to a different gang to get votes.

How is that trying to avoid it? If you were trying to avoid it you would have let it slide and perhaps made your point at an alternative time or even in it's own thread. None of the subsequent posts would then have happened.

For me, there seems to be some quite large double-standards appearing on the board over the last week or two. Perhaps I am analysing things wrong but it seems the ones complaining about a clique pretty much have their own clique they are playing to so it looks pretty hypocritical to me.

Here we go again. It’s like proxy wars for people who no longer post in here. J2 has apologised (not sure what he was apologising for as I didn’t see it but he’s a genuine bloke and if he’s said sorry then that surely draws a line). Can’t we just move on? Or is TWTD in need of another whipping boy to be chased from thread to thread.

I’ve returned to the board to touch base with fellow town fans in exciting times after a really stressful period, but the place is really tense.

I’ll not bother much more and stuck to the football threads.

Nothing would have been said if he hadn't tried to rewrite the narrative of what happened in that thread. Not sure it's ideal to make posts based on something you've not even seen - you wouldn't have done that previously I don't think.

You don't try and avoid an argument by making a multiple paragraph post about other posters who don't agree with you. To me there is a double-standard appearing on here and I think it should be pointed out.

It's nice to have you back but I don't think there was anything wrong with my post. Others clearly agree with it.

Yes that’s kind of what I meant.

Realise it’s too much time and unreasonable for Phil to go through all posts, but I wondered if delete could just be hit for all the replies just leaving the original post which is then locked.

Although I very rarely post anything, I have been an avid reader of this site for approx 20 years. I would therefore say, that it would perhaps be quite difficult for any poster to place me into any supposed clique on either side of the argument.

In my opinion you are correct about double standards, however, this isn't something that has developed over the last week or two, this has been developing over the last 2 - 3 years and, has finally come to a head.

From my perspective, there has been a small number of posters who have imposed themselves on the board and have been quite happy, for want of better words, to dish it out, but don't like to receive it, therein lies your double standards. You can read the various threads and almost guarantee that this small number of 6 posters will all appear and drive the conversation in their direction. For me, it has absolutely nothing to do with their position on the thread, but the way that they conduct themselves and intimidate other posters involved, often name checking other posters in an attempt to draw said poster into the thread. Anyone who disagrees with their position is unfairly categorised and labelled, for example, 52% of voters are xenophobic, racist, little Englander, thick, uneducated and so on it goes.

Having never met anyone who posts on this site in person, I have often thought that it would be an interesting experiment to take these 6 posters and say 14 other regular posters from this board for a group meeting in person, to see whether I could place the relevant individuals with their board usernames from the meeting and, whether the way that they conduct themselves in person would reflect how they conduct themselves whilst posting on this board.

As another poster has already said, "I think he’s just saying what a lot of folk on here have been thinking for a while but probably were reluctant to post for fear of being set upon by a certain faction…", which possibly highlights the problem far better than I can articulate.

so you are saying posters were scared to post in case they were set on ? so it was the twtd 6 fault , strange two threads have been pulled because of bickering and the so called ring leaders were not involved. its like when young callis used to fight his corner over things what were dear to him , never saw many complaining about the pile ins on him. the best one when someone use to say to him , no good arguing with you , as you as you never wrong. mirror comes to mind and irony.

it's worse than that. people actively want to generate and accentuate division. you can't be the hero of the internet without having an evil foe to vanquish. so most energy goes into to inventing that foe and policing the definition you've imposed. it ends up as the opposite to reasoned discussion.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

There seems to be an increase in self-appointed board policemen keen to show themselves as more righteous than others by giving other posters a telling off rather than adhering to the advice they so often dish out. Usually it happens later into threads when you get an argument going round in circles then a few people jump in to start having a go at the people arguing which leads to arguing about the arguing and gets far more tedious than whatever the original argument was about in the first place.

Yesterday was a slightly different case in point where someone posted something that, without context, seemed incongruous but rather than ignore it or simply ask why it was posted, a couple of people went straight into a rant about that person 'trying to start an argument' or 'looking for pats on the back' which was completely unnecessary and caused the thread to get derailed as more people got involved.

I know it's hard sometimes to not scratch an itch if it's irritating and I'm sure everyone on the board is guilty of not leaving something alone at some point or other but I really don't see why the 'just ignore someone/something if they're annoying you' brigade can't seem to do just that.

That's the way it seems to me anyway, and, whilst there seems to have been a bit of a flash in the pan over the last few days, this holier than thou attitude from some has been going on for a while which to me is far more tedious than the bickering between people which would burn itself out if it were left alone.

Maybe we could all do with the season starting up and people getting back in the ground, however short-lived that may be. Would potentially see the tedious micro-analysis of transfer speculation come to an end as well.

(Post not aimed at you btw, I agree with what you're saying)

You'll never convince some people even if you know you're right. The mockery, although an understandable reaction, just entrenches further.

Hats off to what you do Badger and I imagine you every right to feel strongly about certain issues and I know I’ve had my fair share of bust-ups. Just an observation.

Thank you Double_Dutch for your almost perfect assessment of the current issues on this board. Most on here would be very surprised if indeed they ever did meet this small number of 6. There is a damn good reason why some I guess would want to hide their true identity.
Among these folk and several others on here there are a lot of excellent posts; articulate, informative and indeed some have involved a great deal of research and at times convinced me to change my mind on certain issues. It is just a pity that they seem to only want responses from those who hang on to their every word;
and of course if you happen to admit you voted Conservative or/and for Brexit, in the words of Private Frazer, you are doomed!!
I hope it is noted in the annals of power on TWTD how many positive votes your posting received.

Exactly. Those few who are often accused of bullying, are usually the ones who are well read on the subject being debated. Those who accuse them of bullying, usually have nothing more to offer than soundbites and "Well I'm entitled to my opinion". They cry 'bullying' because they get asked for facts and evidence, which they generally never have.
