I don't approve of the new narrative that having two jabs means you aren't contagious or a risk to others.

Even those with two jabs can and will infect other people, possibly people more vulnerable than them. That is the point of the isolation, to reduce infections.

Mr Badger - Mr Poulter is easy to contact and I believe it is a good idea if you were to contact him with your concerns. Leave the expletive in, then he can imagine himself how grave and professionally based your concerns are.
I should also contact the Medical Council so that you can take the first step in getting him 'struck off', if he is as dangerous as you suggest.

I agree, cases seem to be rising in both the vaccinated and unvaccinated which means isolating is still important for all.

It also surely makes the idea of vaccine passports discriminatory and rather pointless don't you think? Despite being double vaxxed I'm personally very uncomfortable with this proposal and have no desire to live in a 'show your papers' society.

Pointless? No. Discriminatory? Possibly.

They aren't pointless because whilst one can pass it on when double-jabbed if you know everyone in the venue is double-jabbed then if it's passed on then the other person is unlikely to get severe C19. That is not the case in a mixed vaccinated/unvaccinated environment where double-jabbed people could pass it on to other who would then get very sick.

I certainly see why some would see it as discriminatory although everyone has the choice to have the vaccine it and those that can't for whatever reason can claim exemption. It's certainly a discussion that should be had though.

I do think it's a false equivalence to compare it to historical "show your papers" societies. This would be to prevent them and others getting a known virus, in those societies it was simply for persecution and I don't think the comparison is fair or pleasant.

Poulter is desperate for a cabinet position, the level of arse kissing that man has done to this government at the cost of his obligations to the constituency where I live is staggering.

Poulter is a doctor - let that sink in.

As for "The Stupid Party" - nope, we're the stupid ones for pointing it out any more. Even Boris supporters knew/know he's stupid - but it doesn't matter. What he's saying feels like politics for their own good, when really, there isnt a single party in that house right now who has the ability to do it better. If they were good at their jobs, they wouldn't have given the majority to the tories.

The saddest thing in all this - is the stupid ones are us as voters. People turned on the lib Dems for forming to the coalition in some kind of protest when in all reality they reigned the tories in. So what did we do? Throw a strop and dilute our votes elsewhere.

We supported Corbyn when we knew Corbyn's party did not support him.

The UK voters have a lot to answer for, and I am not just talking about Conservative voters either.

You make some very good points - there is this myth that the Tories are always back stabbing one another, but the truth is if all the factions in the Labour Party came together they could and should win virtually every general election. Coalitions would not be necessary. The far left continue to hand victories to the Conservatives on a plate. It's not complicated.

Slightly off topic but the number of people isolating shows how ridiculous it is to describe big chain owners like Tim Martin and Mike Ashley as "wealth creators." The pandemic has shown how much they rely on other people to obtain and maintain their extraordinary levels of wealth, and pay them sod all for the privilege.

Wow! I’d say that you haven’t been paying attention if you think that it’s principally the left causing problems in Labour. Then again that’s the narrative the media projects so I get it.

In actual fact, the Labour right has been constantly undermining the party for the past 6 or 7 years. Possibly longer if you consider their utter fetish for neoliberal and Tory-lite nonsense.

It wasn't my intention to compare with historically persecuted societies so apologies if it read that way, nevertheless it is still the potential gateway to a two tier society in the UK and one I would very much not like to see. There has to be a better way than 'vaccinated only' in a modern Liberal democracy.

Regarding your first para, still not sure that is a good enough reason, after all if the unvaccinated which to visit busy public places then that is entirely their own risk, I'm sure they would rather have the choice than not.

It is also not correct that the unvaccinated would all get 'very sick' if infected. In reality the majority of people only get mild to moderate symptoms even without a vaccine, and certainly the demographic that are likely to frequent pubs and clubs. Obviously there is long Covid to consider but again if they choose not to take the extra layer of protection from the vaccine then that is at their own risk.

Fair enough on the first point, I am sure it wasn't your intention as you say. What would you suggest this "better way" would be? I've not really opined in this thread for or against the use of vaccine passports.

"Regarding your first para, still not sure that is a good enough reason, after all if the unvaccinated which to visit busy public places then that is entirely their own risk, I'm sure they would rather have the choice than not."

It's not as simple as this though. You are saying they are only risking themselves but is that true? Firstly there is the fact they would be a significant vector of transmission as they won't have the vaccines to reduce the viral load and thus spread, secondly if they get really sick it's stress on the NHS which is taking away a service from someone else who needs it.

"It is also not correct that the unvaccinated would all get 'very sick' if infected. In reality the majority of people only get mild to moderate symptoms even without a vaccine, and certainly the demographic that are likely to frequent pubs and clubs. Obviously there is long Covid to consider but again if they choose not to take the extra layer of protection from the vaccine then that is at their own risk."

My mistake on this one, that sentence should read:

"could pass it on to others who could then get very sick

Long covid is definitely a concern, once again it's something that would put strain on the NHS which could be substantially avoided. Recently a lot of long covid sufferers are being referred to hospitals for heart examinations for instance.

You've highlighted a lot of what you feel the issues are, could you give us some solutions as you see them?

I agree it does seem to be a slightly bizarre thing for a person of the medical profession to say let alone a member of the governing party.

Whether people agree or not I would like to see a ' none of the above' option on ballot papers at elections, if only to measure the levels of apathy in the country.

I just think vaccine passports are unnecessary and a step too far so therefore we shouldn't have them. I don't think an alternative solution is required. Vaccination is a personal choice and I am uncomfortable with barring those who choose not to take one from public services.

The overwhelming majority of the adult population are choosing to take the vaccine and I don't personally feel threatened by those that don't. I appreciate others may feel differently.
