I don’t think we’ll be up against Zaha and Ayew in League One very often

Considering only three teams let in fewer goals than us in Division 3 last season, but only two teams scored fewer I'd say the defence was far from our biggest problem.

A defence containing Nsiala will never be ‘solid’

We really didn’t - and the stats bear that out.

“25' Wilfried Zaha causing Town more issues, but he's denied by Toto Nsiala as the centre-half produces an impressive tackle on the edge of the area.”

He was one half of our best defensive pairing last season, kept 7 clean sheets out of 18 matches alongside Wilson.

I take it back. That’s suddenly convinced me that Nsiala is t a liability…

No

But we cant be this open defensively if we want to get out of this division. We have gifted numerous clear chances that easily could have been goals with a bit of better aim from palace. It looked exactly the same last year but against league one sides.

I mean that we are error prone and often out of our shape. That needs to be adressed. Dont care what the stats from last year says.

I never felt comfortable with our defence last season, apart from when Wilson was in it. Having said that, the stats bear out that they did a better job than I'd give them credit for. Maybe that's because we played so negatively last season, or maybe it's because they're better than they look.

Mid table team League one team gives other League one teams chances, what were you expecting?

Nsiala is guaranteed to booked, sent off or give away penalties at regular intervals!

If there is one thing, above all else, we have learned during our time in League One….

…..it is that you can give other teams chances and not stress too much about it.

I would be quite happy to be a bit more open at the back if it helps us be more positive at the other end of the pitch.

Like last season you mean?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I believe Nsiala received 2 yellow cards and no reds last year.

Is 2 yellows and 2 penalties in 27 games, "regular intervals"?

(One of the pens was a fairly blatant dive too. The other pen also brought him one of the yellow cards, so it's only actually 2 incidents)

Your assertion that we got ripped apart by L1 teams is nonsense.

It’s pre season

We’re playing a very strong premier league team

Our problem is not defence, it’s creating/scoring

I know it is pre season and we are playing a strong premier league side which we wont be playing regurarly..

But we were ripped apart though a couple of times last year, by teams just putting pressure on our defense. At the moment we cant handle that and immediately lose our positioning. Then we get shaky and start giving the ball away. This game started the same, with the same defense as last year (focusing on cbs) regardless of the opposition. Thats what caused my worry.

We handled it a bit better in the second half, just dont feel confident at the back with toto and wolfy.
