Edmundson Confirmed (n/t) on 13:39 - Jul 27 by ElderGrizzly
If this was Evans and Clegg we would have ended up signing Noel Edmond's son...
I think the most comical time under those two with signings was the Paul Taylor + George Boyd double swoop. IIRC we paid the same fee we were quoted as offering for the pair, but ended up with Taylor.

Good feeling about this one. Big piece of the jigsaw.
Perhaps not important in the overall scheme of things but does anyone know whether Edmundson or Chaplin (if confirmed this afternoon) will be able to play tonight I assume the rules a not as strict for a Friendly

He must be really liked by Cook, and seen as an important piece to the picture, and long term project.
Long guaranteed contract I think given so far (2025). Also gives an indication that GC20 and Ashton are in it for the long term process as well.
Just want to temper that last sentence. I don't think (nor hope) you are wrong but I suspect there is an element of 'having' to offer a decent length of a contract to entice these types of players to come and join us.

There's no need to temper that at all.
Brett Johnson admitted in a recent podcast that the whole process of rebuilding the club and reaching the PL and turning a profit from it could take them 10+ years. They're here for the foreseeable future, make no mistake.

Also... Sustainable contracts. It seems Ashton is trying to get players in with enough time on the contract to give us more scope to sell on if need be. Something I hated more than anything under Evans - most players left for nout.

Farcical business from the businessmen.
That really isn't true.

What i was about to post.
That's one advantage of a pension fund, they're more likely to be looking for very long term returns on investment, not a quick profit.

I am not sure the club would want to play them in front of fans when they have only just signed and haven't had a chance to settle in or train with the others, though. Yu never know, but I suspect Saturday will be the first chance to see them play.
Okay, so 250k isn't chump change, but it isn't far off from being almost like for like - considering Boyd was the superior player, and worth more than 250k at the time.

Crikey, that was a frustrating turn of events at the time.
I was at Uni with George Boyd's best mate away from football. He was being driven to Ipswich by his agent to finalise the deal but got a call that the deal was off 30 mins from Ipswich.

Even if my memory isn't quite as accurate on that post, I do remember there were some weird twists and turns in that transfer. What you just replied with sounds familiar too!

Yeah Boyd came up to our student digs for a couple of nights out. He said that Jewell was desperate to sign him. Although he was a flair player, there was no airs or graces about him. Nice lad. Couldn't handle his pop, though!

From a good mate who is a Rangers season ticket holder.
"Solid centre back. A position where we have five plus other options. Spent last season on loan at Derby, they wanted him back which says a lot. I think it might be one Gers rue in a few seasons. Never put a foot wrong in the games he played for us bar a deflected own goal when we were 3 or 4 up from what I remember. Ill miss him."
