When was the last time anyone used a chequebook?

Because they won the FA Cup on a squad built off a packet of pork scratchings?

Especially as once the window is done, I bet we haven't spent (nett) that much at all.

The same Portsmouth that a decade or so ago were paying John Utaka 50k+ a week.

Short memories Pompey.

They weren't even in the running as far as I understand it. Three Championship sides were after him, Derby, who obviously are struggling big time and wanted to do a loan, and Peterborough and Millwall, who had offers turned down.

From the supporters of many clubs I could see what they mean. From them its laughable. Redknapp and the owner whose name I forget drove them into the ground. I bet at the time they thought, “I wish this club wasn’t splashing the cash”……….

Short memories eh.

John Utaka £80k a week? (no me neither)

David James £50k a week.

In 2010 £131 million has been paid to the players in wages over three years.

Glass houses etc...

I didn't realise how little money they have/spent. One of their owners is something to do with Disney and they were expecting a lot more to be spent. I read them moaning that they will be going into the new season with Ellis Harrison as a starting striker.

They played against Bristol City in a friendly and had to borrow one of their players and their whole youth set up is currently suspended, I believe, following investigations into it.

I guess we'll see just how good the Cowley's are as coaches considering their team is looking pretty abysmal so far.

It's Michael Eisner, think you are right and was top dog at Disney for a very long time.

Very wealthy man but his main business is a privately owned investment firm now, suspect Covid-19 impact has significantly influenced their ability to spend.

Wasn't too long ago they spent nearly £2M on John Marquis in L1 though, we haven't even touched a seven figure fee yet.

He did claim he only earned a third of that, though.

I do wonder how many people are happy to claim they only earn a third of what they get paid.

I know Jim Magilton hated that name but I’ve always quite liked it.

Why though? It’s quite amusing and self-deprecating, reflects that Suffolk dry sense of humour. Jim hated it as he thought it made us sound like simple yokels but that’s why I like it!

If I recall correctly it started life as an ironic / witty reposte to other teams supporters referring to us as a ‘bunch of farmers’ etc.

The media, who understand neither wit nor irony got hold of it and it’s been a slightly embarrassing mill stone around our neck ever since….
