Picking a culture war fight with brave volunteers who save lives is going to be about as a successful as the one with a very likeable England football team.

One wonders what he would say, who he would call, if it were his family put in fear of their lives, forced to flee their homes with only what they could carry, fleeced of every peeny they own and put into debt to traffickers, then set adrift in a tiny open boat in one of the world's busiest seaways, with notoriously treacherous tides and currents. Would he want them left to drown?

Lest we forget, at least one serving cabinet minister who has made a number of highly inflammatory statements about refugees(and those who help them) has had family who were refugees.

Hell, go back far enough, Nigel Farage himself is descended from refugees, I believe.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

That's the crux of it isn't it - people who are living in comfort and safety don't risk their lives to cross the sea in a dinghy. Compassion seems to be at an all-time low.

And when they're supposedly 'rescuing' immigrants, they're actually smuggling in the Covid virus, which they then put into the water supply.

It's very telling that the things that the deeply patriotic Very Real Concerns crowd hate include such magnificent British institutions as judicial independence, the NHS, the BBC, the National Trust, the England Football team(yes, Welsh people, Scots and other such second stringers, i KNOW) and now, the RNLI.

The National Trust is truly magnificent.

Reading in the recent PE that there was non-stop negative stuff in the daily express about the NT - being woke, the slavery stuff etc etc.

All of a sudden it changed. Positive stuff, glowing interviews with the Chief Exec etc etc.

This may be related to the Trust paying a significant amount for an eight page supplement in the express.

So the express can add 'blackmailers' to their honours board.
