Driving / riding with no MOT 13:28 - Aug 3 with 1784 views | bluelagos | Am I right in thinking it's legal to drive/ride a vehicle to the MOT center for a booked MOT test? And if it fails, can you ride it straight home again?

But not via Barnard Castle.

Is in the future. The MOT center is booked up and can only get my bike in after the MOT has run out... So I can either put it on a trailer, so thinking I can ride it to the center - but that is high risk if it fails. Or leave it with them ahead of the MOT running out and pick it up. This is 6 weeks ahead - fck knows why they are so busy.

"The only exceptions are to drive it: to or from somewhere to be repaired to a pre-arranged MOT test" -------- So I reckon I can ride it home even if it fails (Assuming I am going to repair it at home) Cheers.

It can't be taxed without the MOT, though so the tax can't be a requirement.

It it's already taxed, it's still taxed...Mot or not. You can't start buy a new tax without an MOT though.

If it fails you cannot ride it home, you either leave it there to be repaired or collect it on a trailer. Pretty sure same applies even if the vehicle has a current MOT. It is an offence to drive an unroadworthy vehicle even if it has a valid MOT.

Someone posted this a couple of days ago. "Digby Jones appears to be an unpleasant snob and a bore. Very similar to those who chase posters around on here to correct their spelling, grammar and punctuation" I wondered who they were referring to, but thanks for clearing it up.

I believe that you are allowed to take it to a place of repair, so you can ride it away

"The only exceptions are to drive it: to or from somewhere to be repaired to a pre-arranged MOT test" -------- That was off the Gov website someone linked. So can't see why you can't legally ride it home assuming you are going to do the repairs there. (Assuming the reasons for a fail are not so serious as to be deemed driving a dangerous vehicle) [Post edited 3 Aug 2021 17:31]

Driving a vehicle that’s failed You can take your vehicle away if: your current MOT certificate is still valid no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive. If you can take your vehicle away, it must still meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times. You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem.

Just going to use a trailer and be done with it.

Or maybe just find an MoT testing place that is not so busy and could do you a test in a more reasonable time frame
