Brexit "Hard Man" goes soft 10:20 - Aug 6 with 1210 viewsEdwardStone

The Circus master of the scorched Earth Brexiteers is going limp

Maybe he needs some political Viagra

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/tory-mp-steve-baker-who-called-himself-hard

I think that he might be looking at his slender thin majority in his constituency, reflecting on the Amersham by-election result and making a volte-face

You ever feel you've been swindled??

It is ridiculous but entirely within the norms of behaviour nowadays. Having principles, insight or even a basic grasp of the facts would seem to be a barrier to being a mainstream politician.

Blue, red or orange, it saves time to see them as the same breed of opportunists who will say and vote for literally anything if it advances their own political and financial interests.

Seen that name before.

Oh yes Steve Baker MP, the man Johnson turned to for pandemic advice (as I recall that advice amounted to, "End lockdowns now, ignore the science" back in March perhaps?).

Of course I may have that wrong but there's no denying that he has recently (May this year) come out as a climate change denier/spreader of disinformation.

He's apparently very polite though.

I suppose he is an example of the fact we get what we vote for (well what 45.2% of the turnout vote for anyway).

Just to add this is no different from our mainstream journalists who are similarly empty careerists in the main. Baker’s transformation from hard-core Brexiteer to the voice of the Remainers is just a few years behind people like Ian Dunt doing the same.

The problem is that politicians and commentators know they can just say stuff and take positions that ordinary punters, readers and voters can project onto. That’s their currency and their power.

He is Chair of the ERG.....the European Research Group, the meeting place for rabid Euro-sceptics. Or maybe just Euro-septics. His fellow members include the oh-so-likable Mark Francois

Baker is also the deputy Chair of CRG, the Covid Recovery Group who are basically a bunch of Covid deniers who endlessly bleat about all and any restrictions on "freedom" caused by the pandemic and actively seek to have the ear of the PM when he is trying to engage his pea-sized brain on the issues surrounding lockdown and other measures

Baker does seem to have a Very Special Talent for being on the wrong side of an arguement

That suggests he is actually unhappy that it is not an extreme enough Brexit rather than that it has happened.
