Years ago at Colchester, Gus Caesar arrived from Arsenal and quickly acquired the name ‘Fifty p’ and then just ‘Fifty’. This was because whenever he headed the ball it veered off at a strange angle, so people thought he must have a head shaped like that coin. The (earlier) thrupenny bit was of a similar shape. (i remember it as being a bit thicker than other coins, too, but I may be wrong. So maybe wait to see how the fellow plays.)
